JPS, who boasts 106,000 subscribers on the ItsJps YouTube channel, recently returned from his second trip to Britain, where he experienced things he “wasn’t expecting”
An American who spent two weeks travelling around the UK has revealed four surprising things that shocked him about Britain.
JPS runs the ItsJps YouTube channel, where he reacts to a range of UK-themed videos, including music, football chants, British police, and classic TV.
The YouTuber, who currently boasts 106,000 subscribers, recently returned from his second trip to the UK and had some surprising revelations.
JPS said: “Today, I’m going to be talking about some of the shocks I experienced from visiting the UK for the second time.
“I spent two weeks in Germany prior to spending two weeks in Britain, where I went around England and a bit of Scotland and saw Britain for the second time so there were a lot of things I experienced that I wasn’t expecting.”
Public transport
JPS said he was “impressed” with UK trains “this time around”, highlighting how it was “super easy” to find the correct platform at each station. He claimed trains “never delayed” by more than one to two minutes.
He said: “If I lived in Britain, I felt like…especially if I lived in a city, a car may not be necessary, and that brings me to my second point, which is the compactness of cities and city centres.”
The YouTuber explained that he didn’t require public transport in “almost any” of the cities he visited, with walking an “adequate” solution and even “enjoyable” as everything was so “compact”. He added centres were “strategically placed”.
Pubs
Britain is well known around the world for its pubs and JPS was similarly impressed. It’s not only because they offer us the chance to enjoy a refreshing pint in a cosy environment but also due to them being community “focal” points.
He said: “The pub is a place you can just go and talk to your neighbour, get to know your neighbour and just enjoy a pint. It’s not really about the partying as much as it is the sense of community and having the Sunday roast and things like that.”
JPS revealed that he got a “better grasp” of the role of the pubs on his second trip to Blighty, although he sensibly conceded that this pleasing opinion of our local boozers doesn’t apply to “every pub”.
Smoking
JPS said the Brits were “not very tame” when it came to alcohol, especially in “cities like Newcastle”, where he claims he saw a police officer on every corner. He followed up by saying Brits “definitely get p****d”.
The YouTuber went on to say that he wanted to correct something from a previous video, in which he claimed that smoking, particularly among younger people, was “much worse” than he was used to in the US.
He claimed that cigarette smoking in the UK isn’t “nearly as bad” as it is in Germany. However, he did reveal that he noticed that many young people had switched to vapes, saying the prevalence of their use was “enormous” among people in his age group.
Meal Deals
Finally, JPS turned his attention to Tesco Meal Deals, which he said he enjoyed every day that he was in Britain. Amusingly, he wasn’t “tired” of his discount lunch choice even on his 14th day in the UK.
He said there is no equivalent to the deal in America and went on to praise the many options available, which he dubbed a “never-ending stream of goodness” that never got old.
