Blogger Kalani Ghost Hunter delighted shoppers with his observations about British supermarkets
An American who visited Tesco for the first time was wowed by the differences between UK and US supermarkets. Blogger Kalani Ghost Hunter documented his family’s shopping experience on his popular TikTok account @Kalanighosthunter.
In his video, he was accompanied by his mum, who had never visited any UK supermarkets before. Kalani explained: “This is the first time my mum has ever been in a UK grocery store, and I want to show her the cheese aisle.
“Okay, so take a look at all the different kinds of cheese they have. This one’s really good here if you like a very strong blue cheese that’s a solid one.” His mum replied: “They’re got more varieties of cheese than we’ve got. It’s like they have a lot more produce than we have to.” She added that she thinks the groceries are cheaper.
Continuing his Tesco shop, Kalani went on: “Now, mum, this is the weirdest thing. They have eggs on the shelf, not refrigerated.” She replied: “Wow. Yeah, big difference. It means they’re fresher eggs.” Next, Kalani turned his attention to the meat on offer.
“This is something that I’ve really struggled to find back home in America, when I’m trying to do a fry up, is back bacon. Here, there’s plenty of variety for back bacon, but at home, it’s really hard to find. With back bacon comes the sausages. It’s hard to find this style of sausage at home. There’s a lot of different sausages, but it’s hard to find this style.”
He was also impressed by a meal for two offer. “I’ve never seen this,” the shopper shared.” It’s a Tesco meal for two. Sweet and sour chicken and chicken chow mein in a box. There’s even prawn crackers up top. That’s crazy, £6.50. I mean, I don’t know how it tastes, but for two people, that’s wild.”
Last but not least, the American family stopped by the toiletries aisle to pick up Lynx Africa body spray. The video went viral, gaining over 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments.
Several viewers were amused to see the family had added Lynx Africa to their shopping list. One viewer replied: “Lynx Africa is a right of passage for all young UK teens!!”
Another wrote: “Ha! Lynx Africa is like catnip for tweens!” Someone added: “Lynx Africa was the popular one in the 90s hes an old soul! my teen boy likes the excite one,” and a commenter shared: “I’m 46 and I used Lynx Africa as a teen.”
