Americans in UK brand one British chocolate bar ‘odd’ after trying it for first time

By staff13 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

There are plenty of chocolate bars adored by Brits and an American couple who relocated to the UK tried a popular one that left them ‘confused’ as it was different to anything they’d tasted in the US

Cadbury Twirl and Wispa chocolate confectionary bars, manufactured by Kraft Foods Inc., sit displayed for sale in a newsagent's store in London, U.K., on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.

An American couple have had their say on a popular British chocolate bar after trying it for the first time. Brianna Sky Morton and her partner moved from the US to the UK and have enjoyed sampling classic British foods while sharing their thoughts online.

They recently tried a Nestle Milkybar but found it confusing and not like anything they had tried in America. This popular brand of white chocolate was launched in the UK and Switzerland in 1936 and is known for its creamy taste and simple recipe with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, focusing on milk as the main ingredient.

There is a range of Milkybar products, including Milkybar Buttons, Milkybar Kid Bar, Milkybar Giant Buttons Sharing Bag, Milkybar White Chocolate Dessert and Milkybar Jelly & Ice Cream Rowntree’s, which was launched last year.

This iconic white chocolate is enjoyed by adults and children and is often associated with the famous ‘Milkybar Kid’ from its TV adverts.

Brianna and her partner tried the Milkybar Sharing Bar and revealed their opinion in a TikTok video.

The American expat said: “We are very intrigued. We can’t wait to see what this one tastes like so let’s dig in.”

Brianna’s partner’s initial observation was that the shape of the bar is similar to Galaxy and wondered if the treat is a “milk bar” or classified as a “chocolate bar.”

The couple took a bite and Brianna said: “At first it reminds me so much of the Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme but more milky-ish.”

Her partner thought it was “odd” and Brianna added: “It’s not bad, it’s not horrible, it’s just…we’re not used to something like this.

“I don’t think we have anything in America that’s similar to this.” She found that the more you eat it, the more “intriguing” it is, saying that it “really grows on you.”

However, her partner was simply “so confused by it” and couldn’t tell whether or not he liked it.

The couple agreed that it reminded them of the Nestle Lion white chocolate bar without all the crunchy pieces in it.

They both thought Milkybar is “not bad” and they enjoyed it but Brianna’s partner labelled it an “identity crisis.”

The expats included the ingredients at the end of the video, which are milk powders (whole and skim), sugar, cocoa butter, vegetable fat, emulsifier and natural flavouring.

In the caption of the TikTok post they wrote: “This one confused us! Nothing like this one in America!”

The clip has garnered dozens of comments with users giving their views on Milkybar.

A fan of the treat said: “I love Milkybar. It’s one of my favourite white chocolates.” Several British viewers also shared that this chocolate bar is particularly enjoyed by their children.

One claimed: “In the UK a baby’s first chocolate bar is always a Milkybar, kids love it here.”

Another added: “Look for the old adverts [of] the Milkybar Kid. This was definitely the first chocolate we gave our children.”

A third commented: “Toddlers’ chocolate but some adults’ guilty pleasure.” Someone else chimed in: “It’s just good white chocolate, kids’ go-to.”
