Andre Onana makes yet another blunder as he moves closer to Man Utd exit

Andre Onana struggled whilst in action for Cameroon with the outgoing Manchester United goalkeeper making a costly error ahead of his lucrative loan move to Turkey

Andre Onana is closing in on his Manchester United exit but his spell away with Cameroon will not have filled him with joy following his part in Cape Verde’s winning goal.

The two African nations squared off in what was a top of the table clash in qualifying, but the shotstopper who is set to join Turkish side Trabzonspor, did little to cover himself in glory.

His error came in the 53rd minute when Cape Verde striker Rocha Livramento won back possession as he shrugged off a Cameroon midfielder on halfway before driving through the heart of their defence. It eventually left him one-on-one with Onana.

The goalkeeper decided to stay on his line, but his second mistake came as he dived the wrong way as Livramento’s shot struck the back of the net. Cape Verde’s victory saw them seal their place in a World Cup for the first time in their history.

Cameroon though now find themselves in second place and may have to compete in a play-off to earn their place at the World Cup despite boasting some stellar names like Carlos Baleba and Onana’s United team-mate Bryan Mbeumo.

Onana’s move to Turkey is expected to be announced imminently and will bring be a pause to his error-stern time in Manchester. He was signed by Erik ten Hag two years ago and has largely remained the first choice under Ruben Amorim, but has continued to make a number of high profile mistakes.

His latest blunder coming when he tried to claim a delivery into the box against Grimsby, only for the play to end with the ball in the back of the United net.The 29-year-old has incredibly managed to doubled his salary by agreeing to join the club and will travel to Turkey straight from Africa.

United will not receive a loan fee and there is no option for the Turkish club to sign Onana permanently when his deal runs out, meaning he will return to Manchester when a decision will have to be made on his future. The goalkeeper had impressed at Ajax and Inter Milan previously, but hugely struggled in the Premier League.

Amorim had rejected suggestions he would be moved on during the summer, but has started with Altay Bayindir for the three league games so far, albeit Onana was injured in pre-season. On deadline day the club also completed the signing of the 23-year-old Belgian Senne Lammens for £18.3million.
