Manchester United travel to the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening to face Leicester and former star Ruud van Nistelrooy but they might have to do it without a first team star
Manchester United might be forced to call on a teenage star amid a goalkeeping injury crisis.
The Red Devils’ back-up options Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are already dealing with their own respective issues. And they could be joined on the sidelines by regular number one Andre Onana.
The United stopper is set to undergo a late fitness test ahead of this evening’s clash with struggling Leicester at the King Power Stadium. And should he fail to recover in time, a young star could be stationed between the posts.
As per the Manchester Evening News, preparations are already being made for either Dermot Mee or Elyh Harrison to start in the East Midlands. Should either of the two be called upon, it would represent a full debut for each of the youngsters.
Mee joined United in 2019 and has been handed regular chances to train with the first team. He previously enjoyed a loan spell with Altrincham. Meanwhile, Harrison has been with United since 2022 and has made a clutch of under-23 appearances this season, while also having a loan spell with Chester FC.
Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Leicester, Ruben Amorim has already pointed to the importance of his side building momentum. He said: “Everything is important and we need to continue with this feeling that we can win games and games after games.
“It doesn’t matter the time of rest or the time to prepare the next game. We can do it, and we showed against Arsenal. We have to be humble and forget that, forget the table and face Leicester like we faced Real Sociedad.

“We just need to win to improve our position in the table. The most important thing is to continue with this feeling of winning and that we are improving as a team.”
But Amorim has been full of praise for his stars for showing character in the face of adversity. He added: “I feel in the last game that we understand better the idea of what we want to do. We are better understanding the plan for the games. We are giving more time to the team to win or draw games.
“We are not suffering one goal and then losing our minds and suffering another goal, so we are understanding the moments of the game, and also we are understanding better the way we want to play.”
