Reddit users were left baffled when footage appeared to show an odd orange glow hangin over a US military base – the cause of the strange UFO light is not yet clear
Strange footage captured over the US appeared to show a hovering UFO with an odd glow hovering over a military base.
An anonymous user posted the footage from Tennessee to Reddit, showing the “bright orange light” over Fort Campbell, a base on the border with the state of Kentucky. The user said their father, who had significant military experience, was unable to explain what was behind the light.
They wrote: “My dad, a former soldier with nearly 30 years of Army experience and extensive knowledge of the aircrafts that fly over his house, said he couldn’t explain what he saw – this was unlike anything he’d encountered before…
“Just after midnight, my dad was outside watching fireworks when he noticed a bright orange light flying relatively low and maintaining a steady, consistent speed as it traveled from the northwest – where both Fort Campbell and the local airport are located,” the user said according to the Mail Online.
“My friend, dad, and I watched the object together and were surprised it had no additional lights, as one might expect on a drone… Initially, I thought it might be a hobbyist drone capturing footage of the fireworks for the New Year, but the apparent distance it was flying has made me second-guess that assumption.”
Onlookers were confused by the orb, which appeared to be similar to other objects spotted in the US recently. Reddit user @YogurtclosetFlat5701 posted a video on December 27 and said they saw “four strange orbs in formation in what is supposed to be a no-fly zone” in Brookville Blvd, Queens, New York.
In December, while media in the US focused on reports of puzzling unidentified aircraft in New Jersey, it appears some believe we may have our own mysterious visitors. There were three official reports of UFO sightings in Northern Ireland in 2024.
The Ministry of Defence previously recorded UFO sightings, but closed its UFO desk in 2009 after concluding that in more than 50 years, no received report had ever disclosed any evidence of a potential threat.
Nick Pope, who previously investigated UFO reports for the MoD, said the figures sound “staggeringly low”, and said the MoD used to receive “several hundred sightings each year” before 2009.
He said he believes many won’t come forward with sightings because they fear they will not be believed. “None of the sightings sound particularly spectacular, and the one mentioning red and green flashing lights and a vapour trail is clearly an aircraft,” he said.
“The annotation on the FOI response stating ‘noted for information by police’ is a polite way of saying the cops didn’t take any further action, and that’s quite understandable, because it really isn’t their job. That doubtless explains the low numbers, because anyone seeing a UFO will realize this isn’t really a matter for the police.”
