The best-selling skincare product can be used day and night as part of your normal beauty routine
An anti-ageing serum with a legion of fans might not be from a brand you have heard of. Dr Idriss’ Major Fade Hyper Serum targets age spots and hyperpigmentation.
Dr Idriss is a skincare brand created by Dr. Shereene Idriss, a dermatologist with a clinic in New York. All of the products are fragrance-free and dermatology-tested.
Its Major Fade Hyper Serum is one of the brand’s most popular products (£70). The illuminating serum promises to fade stubborn dark spots and improve uneven skin tone.

The serum can also be used to restore your skin’s moisture barrier, hydrate and visibly decrease redness. The Major Fade Hyper Serum has won two beauty awards including the Beauty Inc. Insider’s Icons Serums 2023 and Women’s Health Skincare Awards 2023 accolades.
It has an overall rating of five stars and more than 800 customer reviews. One buyer said: “I can’t stop using this fading secret serum.
“This is my fourth one already, I use four pumps in the morning and four at night on a daily basis. If it is allowed.”
A second wrote: “I’ve tried many products, but the Hyper Serum makes my skin glow, reduces hyperpigmentation, and evens out skin tone. I will never be without it.
“I’m 78 and was in a clinic for a test. The nurse complimented me on my skin, and couldn’t believe my age! Go purple!”
A third wasn’t pleased, saying: “Unfortunately, not for me. It made me break out. I tried on two separate occasions to make sure, and it was definitely this serum.
“Shea butter might be the culprit. I’m very disappointed because I’d heard great things.”
Alternatively, Clinique’s Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Clearing Serum has similar benefits, including reducing the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin tone. The formula is lightweight and oil-free, so it may be more suited to sensitive skin.
A fourth added on the Dr Idriss product: “I have many freckles and age spots on my face. I am 60 years old and definitely see a difference when using the fade system. I also make sure I am wearing sunscreen each day, even in this gloomy OH weather!”
A fifth remarked: “Love this serum! I have ageing skin with sunspots and immediately saw some fading from use twice a day.
“I’m on my second cartridge of the serum and my spots are significantly lighter now! I can’t believe how fast it worked, and I can’t be without this serum!”
Elsewhere, La Roche-Posay MelaB3 Serum also works to target dark spots, uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. It is currently on offer at Boots for £38.40, down from £48.
