Linen experts have revealed the one thing you need to do if you’ve been sleeping on yellow pillows at night – it takes just seconds and it’s a game-changer
Experts are warning anyone with yellow coloured pillows to do this one thing. According to linen specialist Vision, yellow pillows ‘aren’t a great sight’ and although your pillow is usually covered by a pillowcase, you probably don’t want to be sleeping on a stained, yellow-hued pillow. But what causes pillows to turn yellow and what’s the best way to prevent yellow staining in the first place?
The experts explain that ‘we all sweat while we’re sleeping’ and with your head and face resting on the surface of the pillow for hours, any perspiration will end up on the pillow. But, they also caution that it’s ‘not just sweat that can cause that nasty yellow stain’, other moisture sources can also be problematic.
They add that ‘going to bed with wet hair or drooling throughout the night’ can also add to those nasty yellow stains. In addition, chemicals in hair products, makeup and other skincare products can also cause your pillow to become discoloured, as well as natural oils from your skin causing yellowing over time.
The good news is that you can stop your pillow turning yellow by doing one simple thing – and it takes just seconds. According to the linen experts, to protect your pillow from turning yellow, all you need to do is ‘slide a pillow protector over your pillow before you add a pillowcase’.
By doing this, you create an extra layer of protection between you and your pillow, helping to prevent any moisture touching your pillow and causing yellowing to occur. They also add that using a pillow protector will help to ‘prevent wear and tear’ and will keep your pillow usable for longer.
