Apple Intelligence is finally arriving in the UK – here’s how to get it and what iPhone you’ll need.
After a very long wait, some UK iPhone owners are finally getting Apple Intelligence on their devices. This clever boost was first announced back in June and it’s now ready to make phones in Britain a whole lot smarter. Apple Intelligence, which is rolling out now as part of iOS 18.2, comes brimming with new features including help writing emails, proofreading messages and offering instant summaries to make it quicker to find information within your chats.
Users can also create unique emojis – called Genmojis – just by typing in a description and there’s also the ability to produce personalised illustrations using the new Image Playground app. Just explain what you’d like to feature in the piece of artwork and Apple Intelligence will do the rest.
Selfies and family snaps can be retouched in a flash with photo bombers removed automatically using the clever new Clean Up tool.
Apple’s Siri assistant also gets smarter and more resilient at answering requests – it now doesn’t matter if you stumble or pause – plus there’s even full integration with ChatGPT which makes search results and answers much more advanced.
Other extras include Visual Intelligence which can scan text or tell you what something is by simply pointing the camera at it and the Photos app gets smarter with better search finding your favourite photos faster.
If you’ve dreamed of being an artist but your drawing skills don’t quite match your imagination, Image Wand is also included and will transform a rough sketch into something more gallery-worthy.
Searching for help and guides has also been made easier in the upgrade.
It’s a huge upgrade from Apple but not everyone can get it. The only compatible devices are the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, along with the new iPhone 16 range.
If you have one of those call makers in your pocket you’ll find Apple Intelligence as part of the latest iOS 18.2 release which should be available now.
Just head to Settings > General > Software Updates and tap Download and Install .
Once loaded onto your device you can easily switch Apple Intelligence on. Just head to Settings, and tap or click Apple Intelligence & Siri. Generative models will begin to download after users start this setup.
“We’re thrilled to introduce a new chapter in Apple innovation. Apple Intelligence will transform what users can do with our products — and what our products can do for our users,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO during WWDC back in June.
“Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user’s personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them. This is AI as only Apple can deliver it, and we can’t wait for users to experience what it can do.”
It’s also worth noting that Apple Intelligence is also available on iPad and MacBooks as well.
