The iPhone 16e landed in February but something new is already on the way.

Apple’s latest iPhone has fallen to its cheapest price ever as the brand prepares to reveal a new addition to its smartphone line-up. The deal comes from Sky Mobile, where shoppers can get the iPhone 16e for £18.

It comes as Apple has announced it will hold a live stream event on Tuesday, September 9, where it is expected to unveil the long-awaited iPhone 17. In a post on X, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “Get ready for an awe dropping #AppleEvent on Tuesday, September 9.”

While further details are kept under wraps, those tuning into the stream could expect to see the updated iPhone 17 Pro and the rumoured iPhone 17 Air. Similar to the iPad Air and MacBook Air, this new addition will likely be a slimmer and more compact edition of the smartphone.

But as tech fans await their first glimpse of the new Apple phones, Sky Mobile’s latest deal makes the current model even more affordable. The iPhone 16e was previously priced at £19 when spreading the cost, and while the £18 deal may not appear to be a huge discount, it saves £48 over the life of the plan.

The device comes with 100MB of data as standard, but those in need of a larger allowance can take advantage of price cuts on other options including 50GB for £12 and unlimited for £20. Sky’s smartphone contracts typically run for 36 months, but customers can upgrade to a new phone from 24 months at no extra cost.

The iPhone 16e is cheaper than ever on Sky because shoppers can save £48 with a new price drop.

For £18 a month, Apple fans can get a premium iPhone 16e at a cheaper price.

Sky isn’t the only retailer dropping its prices ahead of the Apple event, as Amazon has reduced the iPhone 16e from £599 to £544 for those who prefer to buy outright. This beats Apple’s own £599 price tag for the same model.

Apple launched the iPhone 16e in February, designed as a more affordable model of the standard iPhone 16. Despite its cheaper price, it’s said to offer ‘powerful capabilities’ thanks to Apple’s latest-generation A18 chip.

The handset boasts a 6.1” Super Retina XDR display and is packed with AI features via Apple Intelligence, with standout abilities including removing objects from images and ChatGPT writing tools. The iPhone 16e also boasts a 48MP Fusion camera, 4K video capture with Dolby Vision, and safety features such as Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance.

Our Technology Editor Dave Snelling tried the iPhone 16e earlier this year and said: “There’s no question it’s a very nice device. It gets a premium design covered in toughened Ceramic Shield glass and surrounded in aero-space grade aluminium.

“There’s a soft matte finish on the rear case that looks stylish and stops those mucky fingerprints from ruining the look. Spin the iPhone 16e around and you’ll be treated to a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR screen, which is perfect for a boxset binge, sending texts, or doomscrolling on TikTok.

“Under the hood is a supremely powerful A18 processor, which is not only blisteringly fast but also offers access to Apple Intelligence. It’s worth noting the 16e now beats the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 as those older call makers will never get access to Apple Intelligence as they simply aren’t powerful enough.”

However, Dave also noted a downside of the iPhone 16e, adding: “It’s a good phone but it does lack upgrades such as Apple’s clever Dynamic Island notch which transforms to show information as you use different apps and services, there’s no MagSafe charging and the Ceramic Shield glass isn’t the latest version found on Apple’s more expensive models.

“If those extras don’t bother you, then the iPhone 16e is worth considering, especially when you look at the deals available right now.”
