Office workers may experience neck aches and pains due to spending all day staring at a screen. Sitting in one position for prolonged periods of time eventually causes strain to build up.

Some of the best ways to combat the stiffness include taking regular screen breaks, as well as practising stretching exercises. Another way to remedy the discomfort is to invest in a supportive pillow that cradles the neck and shoulder area in slumber.

Specialised orthopaedic pillows can be expensive, with luxe brands such as Simba charging £109 for their Hybrid Pillows. Customers can instead opt for mid-range priced options, with one such offering being Panda London’s Orthopaedic Bamboo Pillow, which is more cost-effective at £44.95, or from Argos for five-pence more.

The pillow offers medium-firm support, and its memory foam filling is designed to contour a person’s sleeping position, keeping the head and neck in optimum alignment. It’s also thermoregulating and naturally hypoallergenic.

An Argos buyer who bought it to replace an old pillow rated it five stars. They said: “I would recommend this pillow, it is very comfortable and provides a good night’s sleep.”

Orthopaedic Medium Firm Bamboo Pillow

Elsewhere, Amazon’s Ecosafeter pillow is one of its most popular orthopaedic options. The curved pillow is usually £29.99, but is on sale for £21.24. It’s designed to relax the cervical spine and encourage deep sleep.

Panda London currently has a deal on, where when shoppers buy one Orthopaedic Bamboo Pillow, they get another one for half price. Another alternative is Emma’s Original Hybrid Pillow (now on sale for £55.25, was £65).

Emma’s pillow is soft on one side and firm on the other, so users can flip it over depending on their preference. It also has a removable layer that evenly distributes weight and pressure.

Returning to Panda London’s Orthopaedic Bamboo Pillow customer reviews, one person bought it to accompany their Panda mattress topper but found the pillow to be ‘too stiff’, saying it hurt their neck. A third shopper added: “Amazing pillow. Super comfortable and sleeping soundly again without shoulder pain.”

Another buyer concluded: “I wasn’t sure I’d find the bamboo pillow comfortable, but my goodness, it’s perfect! The pillow literally hugs your head, it’s very light, no pressure areas and feels amazing.”
