Argos is dishing out Sky TV rival at a more affordable price – act now or miss out

By staff2 April 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Argos has a limited-time deal that makes watching TV via a dish far more affordable.

Are you fed up with paying huge bills to watch TV? With the April price rises kicking in and the cost of living crisis still hurting wallets, now could be a good time to make some simple changes. Although premium platforms – such as Sky – offer some of the best content and viewing experiences in the UK, they can also be pretty expensive.

Luckily, there is another option for those who already have a dish stuck to the side of their walls with Freesat offering access to a plethora of live and on-demand content without signing up for expensive subscriptions – in fact it’s totally free to watch.

The only thing you’ll need is a compatible set-top box, and if you act by April 13, you can now buy one of these devices at a much lower price than before.

UK stores, including Argos and Currys, are currently selling Freesat devices for £50 less than the RRP. That means you can pop one in your online shopping basket and pay just £179 – once that price is paid, there are no more fees.

For those not aware, Freesat is run by the same team as Freeview with it offering access to hundred of channels. These Freesat boxes on offer are also very similar to Sky Q and feature easy ways to watch and store your favourite entertainment along with access to apps such as iPlayer, Prime Video and Netflix. You can even record four programmes at the same time.

Two models are currently on sale: a standard 500GB version and a 1TB option, which includes more space for recordings.

HERE ARE ALL THE FREESAT DEALS

Freesat 1TB
NOW £209 – WAS £259

One thing to be aware of is that Freesat doesn’t include any premium content, so don’t expect to see Premer League, F1 action from Sky Sports or blockbuster movies from Sky Cinema on your screen.

It’s also worth noting that if you are fed up with your dish and don’t want it on the outside of your home anymore, you can switch to the new Freely service, which comes built into many new TVs. Freely lets you watch live and on-demand content along with offering features such as full TV guide plus mini guide and pausing live content.

Sky also recently launched its new Glass Gen 2, which also lets you view shows, sports, and movies without the need for a dish. It even has a built-in soundbar and integrated apps such as Disney+, Apple TV+ and Netflix. Prices start from £14 per month.
