Mohamed Salah has chosen to commit his future to Liverpool and Arne Slot believes his show of faith will aid their summer transfer business with individuals keen to play with him
Arne Slot has suggested that Liverpool will pursue a goalscorer this summer with Mohamed Salah a draw for potential recruits. The Egyptian has just put pen to paper on a new deal, which will keep him at Anfield for another two years.
Salah’s future had dominated the headlines for months but he will now remain in what is a huge boost for the club and Slot, who is looking to build on his first season. The Premier League title is all but secured, owing in part to the goals of Salah.
He has again been the team’s main marksman, scoring more than 30 times, but he has doubled Liverpool’s second highest goalscorer, which is Cody Gakpo. The club haven’t been unable to rediscover the combination that existed when Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino led the line.
Slot was particularly quiet in his first summer transfer window, but is expected to be far more active with Liverpool advised to add more firepower to reduce the reliance on Salah. The Egyptian though could prove a trump card when it comes to their recruitment with players keen to share the pitch with him.
The Dutch manager said: “I think if put myself in shoes of a player we want to sign, it is always nice that Mo is staying. So that helps but what helps most is we kept a quality player that has scored so many goals in 7/8 years. You are judged on goals so it is helpful having someone who can score.”

There has been talk of Darwin Nunez leaving Anfield with the Uruguayan still struggling to find any regular form. Luis Diaz too has been linked with the exit door as he continues to struggle for consistency on the flank.
Liverpool’s last major addition to their frontline was the signing of Gakpo, which came after the World Cup in 2022. Salah’s decision to stay put will aid the Reds’ ambitions to remain challenging for honours with Slot confident his faith in the club will be a good sign for those watching on.
He said: “If you want to sign players or keep players, it is always a positive one of our star players has made the choice to extend. It also shows how ambitious this club is, Mo, the owners and the ones who came last summer, we are ambitious to keep performing to the level this club has been at in the last few years.”
Federico Chiesa was the only signing Slot made last summer, but he’s barely featured. The Reds’ boss has used a very small pool of players and adding players who can compete for starting berths is likely to be a priority with Liverpool unable to challenge for more than one trophy come April.
