Mikel Arteta will be aiming to re-establish Arsenal as challengers for the Premier League title next term and he could attempt to do it with a couple of current Bayern Munich stars
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for ex-Manchester City star Leroy Sane amid talks for one of his teammates.
Mikel Arteta has established the Gunners as bonafide Premier League title challengers over recent seasons. But their push this season has fallen by the wayside after a run of three league games without a win.
As a result, Arteta could look to add to his squad this summer, with a number of positions in need of strengthening. A couple of Bayern Munich stars are now apparently on Arsenal’s shortlist of potential additions for the summer window.
According to German outlet Bild, Sane is a name that is interesting the North London side. He could be available on a free transfer in just a matter of months’ time with his contract expiring this summer, albeit he would have committed to a new deal at the Allianz Arena had he been offered one.
Arsenal boss Arteta is spearheading that interest in the German winger having previously coached him during the pair’s time with Premier League rivals Manchester City. Speaking about his future earlier this season, the 30-year-old said: “Of course clubs have asked about my situation. But everyone knows my position on the matter.
“I’m not going to deal with it at the moment, I’m going to concentrate on Bayern and try to be as successful as possible with the team.”
Meanwhile, Bayern chief Max Eberl has suggested that they are still mulling over whether to offer the winger a new contract. He said: “We know what we have in Leroy.
“We’ll do our job, and if we think it’s the right thing to do for Leroy, we’ll do it. If we don’t think it’s the right thing to do, we won’t do it. Those are the discussions we are having with Leroy and his agency.”

He added: “We know he is available on a free transfer in the summer. But we want to make the decision actively.”
Sane joined Bayern Munich from Man City back in 2020 and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the club since then, scoring 56 goals. The 67-time German international has won three Bundesliga titles in that time.
Sane is not the only Bayern star that Arsenal are interested in ahead of the summer window. Reports have suggested that the North London side have already launched talks with Joshua Kimmich, who is also out of contract in a few months’ time.
