Arsenal are plotting ahead of the summer transfer window, with Bayern Munich and Germany star Joshua Kimmich among the names to be linked with a move to the Emirates
February was filled with doom and gloom for Arsenal but so far March has been different story.
The Gunners found their goalscoring grove again on Wednesday, pulling off a 7-1 win away to PSV Eindhoven. The result set a new Champions League record and means that Mikel Arteta’s men already have one foot firmly in the quarter-finals.
Speaking of looking forward, the summer transfer window is edging closer, as is the conclusion of Arsenal’s hunt for a new sporting director. Andrea Berta is the leading candidate and has a large in-tray after Gunners fans were subjected to a quiet January.
Here’s a round-up of the latest news from the Emirates.
Kimmich issues future update amid Arsenal ‘talks’
Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has revealed that his future is currently out of his hands after it was claimed that Arsenal have opened talks with the Germany international. Kimmich’s deal with Bayern is due to expire this summer and he’s been tipped to make the move to north London amid out-of-contract Arsenal duo Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s likely departures.
Speaking after Bayern’s 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday, the midfielder, 30, said: “A decision will definitely be made soon. The ball is not in my court. My plan was to do it before the international break. The club wanted it before the two Leverkusen games. I’m noticing that Max [Eberl, sporting director] is honest and is fighting.”
Berta sent Cunha message
Ex-Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere has told Andrea Berta to sign Wolves talisman Matheus Cunha if he becomes the Gunners’ new sporting director. Earlier this year, Berta agreed to terminate his contract with Atletico Madrid, where he signed Cunha in 2021.
Aliadiere believes that the Italian transfer chief can use his connections to immediately benefit Arsenal, telling AceOdds.com: “Berta knows Cunha from their time at Atletico Madrid and it could be a deal that goes through.
“He’s having a great season in a team that’s struggling to fight relegation. That shows you how good he is and how quickly he’s adapted to the Premier League. He could be a good signing, too.”

Tavares discusses Arsenal future
On-loan Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares has suggested he’d be keen on a permanent move to Lazio this summer. Tavares has been spending this season on loan with the Serie A side, who have a clause to sign him permanently for €5million (£4m) and are likely to activate it given his string of impressive performances.
Speaking to CBS Sports ahead of Lazio’s Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen, the 25-year-old said: “I’m still an Arsenal player. I don’t know what’s going to happen but staying [in Italy] is a possibility of course. I’m feeling really good here.”
