Arsenal transfer news: Four major deals lined up as Mikel Arteta sent clear demand

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping for another busy summer transfer window after seeing his team miss out on both the title and Champions League glory this term

After another season of near-misses, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have plenty to ponder ahead of the 2025-26 campaign – and all signs point to it being a very busy transfer window for the Spaniard and his team.

The Gunners came up short in their bid to reach the Champions League final on Wednesday night, losing 3-1 on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain over two legs. They have already missed out on the Premier League to Liverpool, meaning Arteta and Co will end the season without a trophy.

Much has been made of Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker in the winter transfer window and it seems all but a certainty that a new No.9 will be acquired once the season ends.

Ahead of big few months in north London, here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news and gossip from in and around The Emirates…

Four major deals lined up

Arsenal are ready to splash the cash on four key summer signings in a bid to help Mikel Arteta’s men get over the line in the Premier League title race next season. As revealed by Mirror Football, the Gunners have their sights set on a new striker, a left winger, a central midfielder and are also interested in Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen.

Viktor Gyokeres and long-term target Benjamin Sesko are the forward options viewed as the most likely targets for Arsenal, while they remain keen on Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams. A deal for Real Sociedad playmaker Martin Zubimendi is also thought to be all but done.

Arteta sent transfer demand

Mikel Arteta has been warned by Piers Morgan that Arsenal will never win a major trophy unless they finally bite the bullet and spend serious money on a world-class striker. The Gunners have been operating for most of the second half of the season with Mikel Merino as an emergency striker due to injuries and Morgan immediately cited the lack of depth up front following Arsenal’s Champions League exit.

He wrote: “Arteta should stop pretending we’re the best team in Europe when we’re not even the best team in England… and we will never win big trophies until or if we sign a proper world class striker. Everyone knows this.”

Cunha backed to make impact

Matheus Cunha
Matheus Cunha is expected to join Manchester United

Chris Waddle reckons Matheus Cunha would make a major impact should he leave Wolves in a big-money summer transfer – for Arsenal’s old rivals, Manchester United.

The Gunners were heavily linked with Cunha in January but United are now favourites to land the Brazilian this summer. And Waddle reckons Cunha could have as big an impact as Eric Cantona should he finalise a dream summer switch to Old Trafford.

“He [Cunha] probably thinks he’s at the stage when he should be at a club like United,” Waddle said. “Wolves are a big club, but Cunha will be looking for another level up. He’s got a huge opportunity here. If he’s one of the players to turn United around and challenging again, he could be like Eric Cantona, the man who changed United.”
