Asda announces new child ‘rule’ in 205 stores on October 31 for the whole day

Shoppers have been given notice about the upcoming plans at the supermarket chain

Asda has announced it will launch a new ‘rule’ across hundreds of stores on October 31 that will mostly affect shoppers with kids. The ‘rule’ will be in place all day and is designed to help many parents save a few extra pounds this Halloween.

Every year, millions up and down the UK celebrate Halloween, which is arguably getting bigger and bigger every year. This year, Brits are expected to spend £779 million on Halloween, including spooky celebrations, decorations, and costumes.

Asda claims that the average person could spend an average of £26 to make the late October celebration memorable. Whilst this might not sound like a massive amount, it can quickly add up – especially if you have multiple children.

But Asda has put one rule in place this October that might take some of the financial stress off Halloween. On Friday, October 31, any child wearing their fancy dress costume in the supermarket can claim a free meal in Asda’s cafes.

They will only be able to choose from the popular Kids Eat for £1 meal deal if they are wearing a costume, which Asda says is the rule. The offer applies nationwide where Asda supermarkets have a cafe included, which is around 205 across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The £1 meal deal will be in place throughout the half term, helping families stretch their budgets while keeping kids fuelled and entertained. Children can choose from nine different options, including hot favourites such as chicken nuggets, fish fingers, penne pasta and pizza, or opt for the cold ‘Pick and Mix’ option, which includes a sandwich, drink, fruit and a sweet treat.

Away from the cafe, Asda shoppers can pick up spooky party snacks, decorations and pumpkins from as little as 42p. For those needing any last-minute costumes, George at Asda also offers a wide range of choices starting from £8 – perfect for every wannabe witch, ghost or vampire heading out to trick-or-treat.

Jordan Cummings, buying manager for cafes and concessions at Asda, said: “Halloween should be about fun, not financial fright. With Halloween falling in half term this year, we’re proud to help families celebrate without breaking the bank – from free meals for kids in costume to great value across the store, including fun outfits from George.”

In other supermarket news, Tesco has launched a major 25% off sale, which is available online for the first time in years. Shoppers who need a quick costume for their children can pick from a selection of spooky classics from as little as £7.50.

Clubcard shoppers will benefit from the discount both in-store and online. The supermarket has launched a huge recruitment drive ahead of the festive season. This year, the company is taking on more than 28,500 temporary staff across the UK to support shoppers during the hectic Christmas rush.

But, back to Halloween, and for the best pumpkin guide, we looked at all the major supermarkets, including Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl, to see which offered the best price and value for money. Some have pumpkins on offer for as little as 69p each.

If you are carving pumpkins in the next week, follow this simple hack to make them last a little longer. Save all that hard work from going to waste with a rotten pumpkin sitting on your porch that turns into a slimy, smelly mess that can be far less fun to clean up than to create.
