Asda will be open across the whole bank holiday weekend, but will be adjusting its opening hours on the actual bank holiday itself.
The second May bank holiday falls on Monday, May 26. On bank holidays, some businesses close for the day, public transport often runs on a reduced schedule, and there is no postal service.
Over recent years, shops and hospitality venues have chosen to remain open, with shops often following different trading hours than normal – and this does include supermarkets.
On Friday and Saturday (May 23 and May 24) the supermarket chain will open under their normal hours. Times do vary across its store estate but usually open between 6am and 8am and close between 10pm and midnight.
On Sunday, the larger Asda stores will be open under their Sunday trading hours. In England and Wales, this means they can only open for six hours from either 10am or 11am, until 4pm or 5pm.
In Scotland, stores are allowed to open for much longer due to different trading rules, so Asda sites will be open as normal – this means they could open as early as 6am and close as late as midnight.
On the Bank Holiday itself, Asda stores will be opening a little later than usual with some stores opening between 7am and 8am and will be closing at 10pm.
Opening hours will return to normal from Tuesday, May 27. In Scotland, opening hours will remain as normal on the bank holiday Monday.
Asda also has a range of smaller convenience stores, and the majority of these are open 24 hours. As these a smaller sites they do not have to follow the Sunday trading laws, so remain open as 24 hours all week long. This will also be the case on the early May bank holiday.
Overall, Asda has 580 larger supermarket stores, alongside around 500 convenience stores across the country. To be absolutely certain of when your local Asda will open and close, make sure you use its store locator tool. This can be found on the Asda website.
