Bacon tastes far better when it’s not fried and seasoned with one 78p kitchen staple

By staff19 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

If you’re looking to cook bacon differently than just using a frying pan, ensuring it turns out extra crispy, you might want to add this key ingredient that’s already in your kitchen.

Bacon can be cooked in so many different ways, but there’s one specific way that makes it taste so much better, by also adding one secret ingredient – flour.

This delicious food can be paired with almost anything, from eggs to pancakes, pasta and salads. When it comes to achieving that perfect crispy bite, this can be achieved by cooking the bacon in the oven.

There are so many benefits to cooking bacon in the oven instead of frying it. As many of us have probably realised, cooking bacon on the stove creates splatters, which can lead to hot spots on the pan, and even you getting burned.

Replacing this with the oven won’t only minimise the cleaning time, but it will also provide that crunchy bite. It also gives you enough time to prepare other stuff to enjoy it with.

How to cook bacon in the oven in five steps

The taste of oven-cooked bacon is revolutionary, and the best thing about it is that it doesn’t require a lot of ingredients, and it doesn’t leave you with tons of pans and pots to clean up afterwards. And if you’re not a cooking expert, don’t worry, because it’s so easy to make!

As shared by Down Shiftology with Lisa Bryan, the first step is to preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. This will ensure that the bacon begins to cook as soon as it’s inside the oven. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminium foil, and lay the bacon slices.

To make it extra crispy, you can coat the bacon with a seasoned flour mixture before putting it in the oven. Then, pop it in and let it cook for 10 to 20 minutes, or until you feel like it’s crispy enough. Lastly, remove the bacon from the oven and transfer it to a paper towel-lined plate. And of course, serve and enjoy.

With the grease that ends up accumulating on the tray, save it in a glass and use it to cook other foods, such as fried eggs. Not only does it save you from using oil, but it also adds an extra layer of flavour.

By following these simple steps, you can rest assured that your bacon will taste ten times better than when it’s fried. It minimises the cleaning and more time to focus on other things without the need to keep checking whether you will burn the house down!
