BBC Question Time applaud after guest’s brutal one-word dig at Donald Trump

By staff19 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Broadcaser Bonnie Greer appeared on Thursday’s Question Time on BBC One – a Donald Trump special – and expressed her dissatisfaction at Donald Trump’s immigration policy

Bonnie Greer blasted Donald Trump on Question Time last night

Sections of the Question Time audience applauded as a guest slammed Donald Trump last night.

Bonnie Greer, a broadcaster born in the US but living in the UK for decades, answered a question from an audience member on the Donald Trump special – as the President’s state visit ended. The enigma was “what can Trump teach the UK about immigration,” to which Ms Greer simply said: “Nothing”.

At this point, people in the crowd clapped warmly and were seen nodding. She put her savage opinion across distinctly after other members of the panel – including Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, James Cleverly, and Piers Morgan – threatened to derail the question.

Explaining her blunt answer, Ms Greer, born in Chicago, said: “The United States has become a much less civil society than it ever has been. You do not, in the United States of America, ever have somebody jump up out of a trunk with a mask on their face, and take you down, and take you to a prison and put you somewhere where you don’t even know where you are, and you cannot contact your family.”

Douglas Alexander, James Cleverly and Piers Morgan were also on the panel

Ms Greer added: “You do not in the United States deport a person without due process, because we are nation with laws. This nation exists on the rule of law, the only way we can live is as civilised human beings. Donald Trump has effectively destroyed that, hopefully not totally.

“If you come from Mexico, and you are captured by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) – I’m going to use the word capture – you will be taken to a jurisdiction that is friendly with Donald Trump’s White House, and you can be deported to South Sudan. What the hell has that got to do with being Mexican? That’s why people aren’t coming, they are being set to the twilight zone.”

It led to further applause by the audience in London, gathered after Mr Trump’s state visit, during which he told Keir Starmer to call in the military to deal with small boat crossings. Speaking on Question Time last night, Piers Morgan – longtime friend of the US President – appeared to agree with this idea. The broadcaster claimed neither the Labour government or the Conservatives “have a clue” how to tackle immigration.

Mr Morgan, 60, said: “Would I like to see Trump policies – in other words zero tolerance involving National Guard, involving military…?” Presenter Fiona Bruce interjected to ask: “So get the Army on the streets?” Mr Morgan said: “I wouldn’t hesitate. Nothing else has worked. Why shouldn’t we? Why should we be so afraid of using the military? It has clearly worked in America.”

Mr Trump last night boarded Air Force One and set course for the USA after enjoying three days of pomp and splendour with the King and Keir Starmer, with the two world leaders having taken a victory lap this evening after hammering out a £250 billion tech deal.
