Adventurer Bear Grylls reckons that thanks to advancing technology, he’ll be walking around the Earth in 2125 and has no plans to slow down
TV Adventurer Bear Grylls has revealed that he believes he will live to 200 years old. The 50-year-old made the surprising claim that he believes he is “25 percent” through life because of the “speed of AI” and developments in “stem cell” research.
The former SAS member thinks it’s taken him 50 years to figure out the lessons that life has to teach him, and he is now ‘ready to get going’. He told the High Performance podcast: “I’m pretty sure in the next 30 years we’re going to certainly be able to live to 200. I think the speed of AI and stem cell this, and stem cell that.
“I’ve stopped counting years, I’m now working in percentages and I’m also bargaining by the time. So I’m at 25 per cent and I’m ready to recharge as well along the way, you know. Life is a gift.”
Asked whether he seriously feels that he’s 25 per cent through life, he insisted he did. Grylls added: “I’m only just getting going. In fact, I actually don’t feel I’ve started. I really feel that, it’s like wow, I’ve done the hard bit in a way which is kind of build the platform and kind of get out there and learn some of these lessons.
“You know, because everything we have talked about today, none of it is taught to anyone at school. So it’s like, I feel it’s taken me 25 per cent of my life to figure out the lessons of life and now I’ve figured it out, now we’re kind of ready to get going.”
Bear is fronting new show Celebrity Bear Hunt alongside Holly Willoughby where he chases down famous faces in the rainforests of Costa Rica and shows no signs of ageing on the Netflix series. He made similar claims to Saga magazine when speaking about recently turning 50.
Last month, he said: “For the first month or so I threw out all the clichés of age being just a number. “Now I’ve decided I’m going to look at it not in years, but in percentage. I’m sure we’re going to be able to live to 200 in the next 30 years, so the way I see it, I had a very good 25% birthday.”
Asked if there were advantages to getting older, he said: “I read about a centenarian who was asked that,” he says. “And straight off the bat she said, ‘no peer pressure’. I really liked that. And I’m better at everyday gratitude.”
* Celebrity Bear Hunt starts on Netflix on February 5.
