Three-time women’s world champion Beau ’n’ Arrow will be back in action at the low-key PDC Women’s Series in Leicester this weekend after her brilliant performance at the UK Open
King of darts Bobby George can’t wait to see Beau Greaves compete against the men again after world No.1 Luke Humphries had to “pull out all the stops” to prevent a sensational upset.
Three-time women’s world champion Beau ’n’ Arrow will be back in action at the low-key PDC Women’s Series in Leicester this weekend after her brilliant performance at the UK Open. Greaves swept aside Stefan Bellmont, Rhys Griffin and Mickey Mansell to reach the fourth round in Minehead, where she nailed a hat-trick of ton-plus checkouts and led Humphries 7-5 before slipping to a 10-7 defeat.
And George, a two-time world championship finalist believes it’s only a matter of time before the Doncaster trailblazer is upsetting the applecart regularly on the big stage. Professional Darts Corporation rules prohibit Greaves from competing the WDF women’s world championship as well as the PDC’s showpiece tournament at Alexandra Palace.
But PDC bosses may have to review their own smallprint because Greaves, 21, clearly belongs in exalted company – and Humphries admitted after his close shave: “She belongs on the big stage.” George said: “The girl is not stupid – she had the chance to play at Ally Pally last year but she turned it down because she wanted to be a multiple ladies’ world champion at Lakeside.
“What did she get for winning the ladies’ world championship – about £25,000, wasn’t it? Beau would have to win at least two games at Ally Pally to earn that amount, but she’s virtually 100 per cent nailed-on to win 25 grand for the women’s world title.
“The standard of ladies’ darts has been going up, but she’s the captain of them all. When she played Humphries at the UK Open, poor old Luke didn’t know what had hit him – 126 checkout on bullseye, 124 checkout – Beau was exceptional, and Humphries had to pull out all the stops.
“He must have been wondering, ‘What’s happening here?’ I’m glad I wasn’t playing her that night. She would have scared me to death. Trina Gulliver won 10 ladies’ world titles, Lisa Ashton has won four, Fallon Sherrock was terrific when she beat a couple of the fellas at Ally Pally, but Beau is way ahead of them.
“Yes, it would be nice to see her go back to Ally Pally (Greaves lost 3-0 against William O’Connor in the first round of the PDC World Championship in 2022) and mix it with the boys because she will frighten a few of them if she plays like she did against Humphries. She’s a smart young lady and she’ll know when the time is right to have another go at the Palace.”
