A “beautiful” mum-of-one was killed in a horror collision with a HGV while driving home from work, an inquest has heard.
Chloe Lightfoot, 33, was making her way home along the A66 in Barnard Castle, County Durham when her Citroen Berlingo van collided with a HGV just after 8am on August 26.
A huge emergency response was deployed, with paramedics, air ambulance and fire and rescue all attending the scene. Despite their best efforts, Chloe could not be saved and was pronounced dead.

Shortly after her death, Chloe’s heartbroken family released an emotional statement. They said: “Chloe was a beautiful young woman, who was a mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, girlfriend, and friend to many. To never see her smile again is breaking our hearts. We are going to miss her every day.
“Our memories have never been so important to us as we try to come to terms with what has happened. We love her so much. She will never be forgotten.”
An inquest into her death opened at Crook Coroner’s Court by Senior Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield on Monday.
The court heard how Chloe lived in Spennymoor and worked as a sales administrator. A post-mortem was held at Newcastle Freeman Hospital and gave the cause of death as head and chest injuries.
Her family are currently being supported by specialist Durham Constabulary officers, reports Chronicle Live.
Last month, heartfelt tributes were paid to a woman who suddenly died in a car accident on a busy road as people remember her to be a “loving mother” and “very special person”.
On the morning of Friday August 22, Jodie Amanda James was critically inured in a collision whilst out riding her bike along the A40 road, near Llanddewi Velfrey, Pembrokeshire. After being taken to hospital, it was only two days later when the mother sadly lost her life, on Sunday, August 24.
The family of the 33-year-old have since paid tribute to her in a touching statement, released through the police. They shared: “Jodie was a loving mother to Kaleb, daughter to Amanda and Stephen, and sister to Sammy and her brother-in-law Kristian.
“Jodie was a loving sister to her brother Adam, and auntie to Karter, Lilith and Atlas. Jodie was an inspiration, a very special person to us all.”
