Beautiful seaside walk with ‘exploding fields’ named UK’s top wildflower trail

By staff4 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

According to a data study by Flying Flowers, Cornwall is officially home to the best wildflower walk in the country – promising rainbow-coloured fields of poppies, marigolds and squill

A trail in Cornwall has been named the most highly rated wildflower walk in the UK, according to new data. The data reveals not just the top-rated trail but names ten of the best floral footpaths in the country as of 2025.

In order to figure out the best wildflower trails, Flying Flowers analysed data from AllTrails and Tripadvisor. The findings revealed Pentire Headland Walk in Cornwall as the highest rated trail.

Pentire Headland Walk has an average AllTrails rating of 4.9 stars. This designated Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI) is a “botanical wonder” according to Flying Flowers. Here, visitors have the opportunity to marvel at multi-hued fields of red poppies, yellow corn marigolds, blue squill, thrift, and many other wildflower species. This comes after reports of a telltale walking symptom that could indicate dementia – and how to spot it.

The scenic Cornwall trail is circular and considered of moderate difficulty. At 6 kilometres in length, it takes a little over an hour and a half to complete.

Scenic UK walking path passes stunning beaches, cosy pubs and is perfect for hikers

‘I spent 48 hours in EU capital city and paid less than a night out in London’

The second highest rated trail according to the data is the walk from Rydal to Buckstones jump in the Lake District. Though it had fewer reviews than the other trails in the top 20, the 3.7 km stretch offers a distinctly tranquil quiet experience. It might even be better to opt for a lesser-reviewed trail, according to one expert.

Sandra Varley, Head of Flying Flowers, said: “In the busier summer months, you probably won’t have a trail entirely to yourself, but choosing lesser-reviewed, highly-rated routes gives you a better chance of enjoying wildflower walks with fewer crowds.”

Despite being a fraction of the length of the Pentire Walk, the path from Rydal to Buckstones is packed with fascinating florals, including bluebells, daffodils, cow parsley, and wild garlic, among many other species.

The findings also revealed that more than a quarter of the top wildflower trails are – unsurprisingly – in the Lake District, making it the UK’s undeniable wildflower hiking hotspot. Now you know where to visit to enjoy the UK’s exceptional flora and fauna, but when is the best time to plan your hike?

“Wildflower enthusiasts will have the best experience visiting floral trails between April and August,” says Sandra. “This tends to be the peak time for botanicals to bloom, improving chances of seeing a wide array of wildflowers.”

While you may be inclined to go off the grid for your hike, she says your phone might actually help you better appreciate the beauty around you.

Sandra says: “iPhones have a great built-in feature for identifying plants, all you have to do is take a picture and scroll up on the image to its details, and you’ll get an instant wildflower ID.”
