The beach is a holder of the Blue Flag, meaning it meets top environmental standards. This stretch of coast is also renowned for its walking trails that promise adventure and postcard-worthy views
The south-west of England typically takes the crown for having the UK’s most exquisite beaches – drawing staycationers by their droves to Cornwall, Devon and Dorset each year.
However, a new trend has holidaymakers giving the A30 journey to Land’s End a miss, with eyes set eastward towards Norfolk’s tranquil shores. One destination, in particular, is stealing the limelight – Sheringham, a picturesque town situated roughly 28 miles north of Norwich, nestled within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape.
This stretch of coastal haven is renowned for its rich biodiversity, walking trails that promise adventure and postcard-worthy views. Boasting the prestigious Blue Flag for environmental excellence bestowed by the Foundation for Environmental Education, Sheringham beach is an unspoiled paradise, pleasing visitors with its natural splendour.
But it’s not just about sandy toes and saltwater; Sheringham also offers a treasure trove of unique independent shops and cultural hotspots for tourists to enjoy once they step off the beach, reports the Express.
Whether it’s scouring for timeless pieces in antique and vintage shops or soaking up creativity in art galleries like Sanders and Christie, there’s plenty to keep one engaged.
The charm of Sheringham hasn’t gone unnoticed, earning high praise from visitors who have experienced its offerings. Laura from Sheffield shared her joy on TripAdvisor, exclaiming: “An absolute amazing town and beach. I’ve been coming here for about 14 years and will continue to come in the summer months.
“The beach is well maintained with a lifeguard station where the boat ramp is located. The beach is a very short walk from the main village centre which is useful as that is where most of the holiday homes are located for visited to stay. There is an ice cream shop on the board walk above the beach and seat to over look the sea.”
Another visitor added: “A lovely day out with my wife to this gorgeous place. Lots to see and do and some very nice cafes for food. Enjoyed a tasty nice artisan ice cream as we walked among the high street.
“The beach walk was very picturesque but we had the dog so couldn’t get down to the actual sea. Didn’t spoil our enjoyment though, and will be coming again soon”. A third added: “A wander down the main street from the car park or the station will take you past a lively eclectic mix of shops and cafes to a decent beach with far reaching views.
“If the weather is not suitable for the beach worry not there are a number of attractions from amusement arcades to museums and the ever popular award winning North Norfolk Railway.
“The main events are the 1940s weekend which really should not be missed. It was one of the best in the UK and is getting back to its former glory after the pandemic. Also the ever popular traditional carnival. It seems there is always something happening in Sheringham”.
