Ben Shephard has been poked fun at by his online followers after sharing a workout video alongside his rarely-seen teen son.
The This Morning presenter, 50, and his 19-year-old son Sam enjoyed time together in the gym as they aim to keep trim over the festive period. However, after Ben shared the clip, fans pulled no punches in the comments section.
Taking to Instagram, Ben wrote: “So, Sam, my eldest, as part of my Fit@50 challenge has challenged me to do what…?” Sam replied: “50 pullups!” before his dad added: “50 pullups! So, seeing as a I am desperately trying to get there, today we’re gonna try to complete the challenge. We’re having a big sit-down Chinese later on so we’re gonna see if we can work a little bit of space!”
Ben delighted in telling fans he “finally did it” after “a few sets and a lot of grunting, huffing and puffing, but we got there in the end!” He explained it took the pair about seven or eight minutes to complete the impressive feat – but that didn’t stop him receiving a playful jibe by some of his followers.
In the comments section, one user joked: “absolute unit. and then you. haha. go on sam.” Another added: “He’s so much bigger than you now ben [crying with laughter emoji]. Won’t be long before Leo’s bigger than me.”
Others were quick to praise both of them, with another user writing: “Well done to you both, and now to enjoy the Chinese.” Another agreed, adding: “Very impressive. Especially doing them SO fast!!”
Sam is the eldest of Ben’s kids with wife Annie. The pair also share 15-year-old son Jack. Ben and Annie met in their early twenties and went on to marry on a private island off the coast of Devon almost a decade later. On their wedding anniversary in 2020, Ben penned a sweet note to his wife on Instagram, saying: “Can’t quite believe another year has gone past, suddenly this one feels all the more poignant because of what’s happening.”
He also sometimes shares pictures of the family enjoying a walk together. Recently, sharing a snap of Annie and himself smiling for a selfie while the kids played in the background, he wrote: “Out for a Sunday afternoon walk trying to capture a lovely pic, just to have two numpties consistently ruining the moment. Apparently they’re adding humour to a soppy bit of nonsense!! they’re right – but won’t tell them that.”
