Skip the cotton and linen, these are the lesser-known fabrics an expert says will help you beat sweat patches and odour
Let’s face it, summer dressing can be a bit of a mission. Between dodging sweat patches, wrestling with the iron and trying to stay vaguely presentable in 25-degree heat (and after a crammed tube or train ride), it’s no wonder many of us just throw on the nearest crumpled tee and hope for the best. But what if your clothes could work with you in a heatwave, not against you?
Martina Cherry, style expert at Endource, is sharing her go-to fabrics for staying cool, fresh, and wrinkle-free when the sun’s doing its thing. Spoiler: linen isn’t the only player in the game. Here are four other fabrics to look out for that’ll help you beat the heat, dodge the dreaded sweat marks, and, best of all, ditch the ironing board.
1. Tencel (lyocell)
“Tencel is not only wrinkle-resistant, but it’s also a quick-drying and biodegradable fabric that becomes softer with each wear,” says Martina.
Lightweight and cool to the touch, this silky-smooth fabric is a dream for muggy days. Its impressive absorbency means it wicks away sweat like a pro, helping you stay dry and fresh no matter how steamy your commute gets. Commonly found in dresses and trousers, Tencel also wins bonus points for being kinder to the planet. So if you’re after a sustainable swap that still looks polished and pretty, this is it.

2. Recycled polyester
You might not immediately think of polyester as your summer BFF, but hear us out. Recycled polyester is a rising star in the world of activewear for good reason. It’s got some technical magic that means it dries in a flash and holds its shape brilliantly—ideal if you’re hopping between park picnics and post-work drinks. Look for recycled polyester blends in relaxed dresses, sporty separates, or even smart-casual trousers.
“An increasingly popular fabric for activewear, recycled polyester is another wrinkle-resistant fabric that is also super durable and lightweight, keeping you dry and comfortable during intense workouts or outdoor activities,” Martina explains.

3. Bamboo viscose
“Known for its softness and durability, bamboo fibres are longer and stronger than many other natural options like cotton, making them naturally resistant to creasing and wrinkling,” says Martina.
But that’s not all—bamboo viscose also boasts antibacterial properties and natural UV protection, which is a total game-changer if you’ve got sensitive skin or are prone to overheating. You’ll most often find it in underwear and sleepwear (where comfort really is key), but it’s popping up more and more in daywear too. It feels gloriously soft, stays smelling fresh, and needs barely any maintenance – ideal.

4. Merino wool
Now, we know what you’re thinking: wool in summer?! Let us explain. “Both lightweight and naturally wrinkle-resistant, merino wool is great for those looking for an easy-care, low-maintenance fabric,” says Martina. “Despite being wool, Merino keeps you cool in the heat thanks to its excellent moisture and temperature regulation.”
This clever fabric has long been a secret weapon for hikers and explorers, but it’s making waves in everyday fashion now, too. You’ll spot it in breathable base layers, blouses and even tank tops. Think of it as your secret weapon for staying fresh and polished, without needing a change of clothes halfway through the day.
