‘Best’ method to fall asleep easily during heatwave and it’s completely free

By staff10 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A woman has shared a game-changing life hack for those struggling to sleep in the sweltering heat, as temperatures soar to over 30 degrees Celsius in some parts of the UK

As temperatures soar, many Brits will try literally anything to try and stay cool. From drinking peppermint tea before bed, to sucking on ice pops during the day, sitting directly in front of fans, and plunging feet into a washing-up bowl of ice, there likely isn’t a heatwave hack that you haven’t attempted. Until this one.

Naomi Cutler, who posts on TikTok as @nemscutler, shared that she was here to give people “a little hack in this heat” as temperatures surpass 30 degrees in some places across the UK. It’s free, simple, and well worth a try if you’re struggling to sleep during the sweaty nighttime weather.

Naomi said: “This is just your reminder that if you’re struggling to sleep in the UK heat, but like me, you still need to have some kind of blanket covering you, there is absolutely no rule that says you have to put your duvet inside the duvet cover.

“You can just sleep with the empty duvet cover, and it’s like a nice thin blanket not blanket, so you can put your toes under if you want to, but also, it’s not a massive duvet that’s in the way when you’re trying to sleep in the heat”.

She also said that you also “feel like you’re abroad,” which is a bonus, because they just put a “thin sheet of the same consistency” on most beds during the warm months.

Naomi said that this is a “win-win” situation, and others in the comments agreed with her.

Someone said that this hack was a “godsend,” but others admitted that they “need the weight of the duvet” to be able to sleep comfortably.

Sleeping with a thin sheet instead of a whole duvet during a heatwave can help because it allows your body to release heat more easily.

Duvets are designed to trap warmth and insulate you, which is helpful in cold weather but can make you feel hotter and uncomfortable when it’s warm.

A thin sheet provides a light cover that can still offer some comfort without holding in as much heat. It also allows for better airflow around your body, which helps sweat evaporate and keeps you cooler throughout the night.

This can make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep, even when temperatures are high.

Adding this with other methods that keep you cool can also really help too, and people had other recommendations on Naomi’s TikTok comments.

“Hot water bottle with water out of the fridge,” someone suggested.

Another recommendation is to put your “T-shirt in the fridge 20 minutes before you get into bed” so that it’s nice and cool when you put it on to sleep in.

Naomi said she was worried about being “too cold” trying this, but they insisted she try it.
