Bodo/Glimt decided to show support to Palestinians affected by the conflict between Israel and Palestine by sending their matchday revenue to the Red Cross working in the Gaza Strip – which amounts to £52,200
Bodo/Glimt have been hailed for making a “sensational” gesture by donating the ticket sales from their Europa League clash against Maccabi Tel-Aviv to aid workers in the Gaza Strip.
The Norwegian side, who played Manchester United in November, beat Tel-Aviv 3-1 last week, with 3,989 fans attending the game at the Aspmyra Stadion.
During the game, fans were seen holding peaceful demonstrations before the game, holding up Palestine flags while also displaying banners calling for peace during the match.
The club later revealed they had decided to show support to Palestinians affected by the conflict between Israel and Palestine by sending their matchday revenue to the Red Cross working in the Gaza Strip – which amounts to £52,200 (735,000 Norwegian Krone).
Israel and Palestine have been engaged in a deadly conflict since 2023, with a reported 50,000 deaths in Gaza following 15 months of war – and Bodo/Glimt have decided to help those suffering by “showing pride beyond the football field”.
In a statement announcing their gesture, the club wrote: “We have said it before, and we say it again: Glimt cannot, and will not, be unaffected by the suffering and violations of international law that are taking place in other parts of the world.
“Through Action Now, we in Bodø/Glimt have committed ourselves to contributing to actions that create pride – far beyond the football field. Now we want to show that we put action behind the words.
“We will donate all the ordinary ticket revenues from the home game against Maccabi Tel Aviv to the Red Cross and earmark aid work in the Gaza Strip. This amounts to NOK 735,000, – and is donated by all of us. Thanks for the fight!”
Fans lauded Bodo/Glimt’s efforts, with one fan writing: “Absolutely class from @Glimt. These guys at Bodo are actually sensational.”
Another said: “Wow from @Glimt. I hope you are groundbreakers and many clubs following your lead.”
A third added: “Great club, great people. My son played one of their academy teams last year and couldn’t have met nicer people.”
