Body found on UK beach in hunt for missing Glasgow man who vanished weeks ago

Ryan Welsh, 27, was last seen in Glasgow on October 5 and police have now confirmed that a body has been found on a beach at Dunoon, with his family informed

Police have tragically discovered a body in their search for a missing Glasgow man, weeks after he vanished.

Ryan Welsh, from Milton, was reported missing by his family after they had not heard from him since Friday October 3. The last official sighting of the 27-year-old was two days later, during the early hours of Sunday October 5 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

His partner and uncle launched an urgent missing persons appeal in a bid to help locate him.

After over two weeks of police searching for any trace of Ryan they discovered a man’s body at around 12.40pm on Monday October 20. The body of a man was found on the beach at Marine Parade, Dunoon.

While formal identification is yet to take place, Mr Welsh’s family has been informed. Detectives are currently treating his death as “unexplained”.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: “Around 12.40pm on Monday, 20 October, 2025, the body of a man was discovered on a beach at Marine Parade, Dunoon”, reports Glasgow Live.

“Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of missing person Ryan Welsh have been informed. His death is being treated as unexplained.”

Of the 170,000 people who go missing in the UK each year, some cases remain etched in our minds, while others fade too quickly from public attention, if they were ever known at all.

Yet for the families and friends of those still missing, the need for answers and support never diminishes as hours, days, months, and years pass by.

DEMAND ACTION FOR MISSING PEOPLE

Too many missing people are falling through the cracks – harmed while away, and ignored when they return.

We need a proper government strategy led by the Home Office, Education, and Health departments to stop this crisis.

Right now, there’s no real support. People go missing again and again – yet no one’s asking why.

We’re calling for:

  • A new national strategy for missing children and adults
  • Proper support for missing people when they return
  • Investment to stop people going missing in the first place

At 10,000 signatures, the government has to respond. At 100,000, it will be debated in Parliament. That’s our goal – real action.

You can help by signing our petition here.

This is why the Mirror has launched Missed . In partnership with Missing People, our mission is to bring awareness to every publicly listed missing person in the UK through our live, interactive map.

Simply zoom into your chosen area to see how many people have gone missing in that location. Zoom in further to reveal photos of missing persons plus the names, ages and length of time they’ve been missing.

Simple to use, the map allows you to report a sighting in confidence as well as share on social media.

For advice, support and options, if you or someone you love goes missing, text or call Missing People’s Helpline on 116 000 or email [email protected]. It’s free, confidential and non-judgmental, and sightings information can also be taken. Or visit www.missingpeople.org.uk
