Book this specific plane seat for ‘smoothest ever flight’

By staff16 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Flight attendants have revealed the best seat to book on a plane if you want a smooth flight – and it’s not just about the extra legroom or being near the exit

No one racks up more air miles than a flight attendant.

They jet off to more destinations in a single month than most of us manage in a year, so who better to spill the beans on the best seats on a plane?

Thanks to their countless hours spent onboard and navigating an aircraft, cabin crew are top-notch at pinpointing the prime spots to park yourself.

Whether you’re after maximum legroom and comfort, the handiest seat for the exits or the best place to dodge that shaky feeling, they’ve got all the top spots sussed, reports the Express.

Exit row seats

A host of former flight attendants have named the exit row window seat, usually seats 21A or 21F, as their top pick. According to one expert, the seat often aligns perfectly so no one can recline into your space while also letting you lean against the window without any bother.

Miriam Lawson, a former flight attendant based in Atlanta, Georgia, told Yahoo: “The extra legroom is heavenly during long flights, and being on the left side of the plane meant I wasn’t in the direct path of beverage service, which typically starts on the right. It’s quieter, and you can rest more easily with the wall beside you.”

Another ex-Emirates flight attendant revealed that they favour seats 6A or 6F, which tend to be just behind business class or at the front of economy. However, they reckon a close second choice is the exit row, thanks to its bonus legroom to “stretch out” comfortably.

Beyond legroom, what every passenger would desperately want to dodge is enduring the stomach-churning sensation of turbulence, and according to cabin crew, the exit row seats also prove beneficial for this.

Usually, they’re positioned over the wing, which is meant to provide a “smoother” journey.

Former flight attendant Kaz Marzo, who now works in aviation operations, explains: “The wing provides structural support that helps stabilise turbulence. It’s the smoothest ride you’ll get in economy.”

She also emphasises additional advantages of occupying these seats regarding practicality.

She said: “Exit row seats are a sweet spot: you board in an earlier group, exit quickly, and avoid the crowds near the galley and lavatory.”

What emerged clearly from all these expert views was that cabin crew generally favour window seats, as they provide both relaxation and privacy whilst offering an additional surface to rest against.

Regarding quicker boarding and departing the aircraft, they consistently recommend seats in the front section of the plane.

If you’re somebody who despises experiencing turbulence, naturally the exit rows are optimal, but if you’re seeking convenience, they frequently advise steering clear of the aisle seat.

Not simply any aisle, but a seat close to the galley or toilet is never their preferred choice.
