The man was arrested when the flight landed at the Tom Jobim International Airport in Galaeo, Rio de Janeiro, after the boy spoke to his mum in the arrivals area once he was away from the man
A businessman has been arrested after ‘raping an 11-year-old boy’ on board a flight from Miami.
The 30-year-old was arrested when the flight from Miami, Florida, arrived at the Tom Jobim International Airport in Galaeo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The boy is said to have told his mum after the flight on Thursday that the man had approached him during the journey and struck up a conversation about games before sexually assaulting him.
When the flight landed, the mum went straight to the police and the businessman, who has not been named, was arrested. The Brazilian Federal Police said the boy told his mother of the assault while in the arrivals area of the airport.
“According to the minor’s account to his mother – when he was already away from the aggressor and safely in the arrivals area – the perpetrator, during the flight, had approached the victim and talked about common interests (games), creating trust and a degree of possible embarrassment,” the Brazilian Federal Police said in a statement. When the flight landed in Rio de Janeiro, federal police officers carried out investigations at the airport and managed to detain the man.
The child’s testimony, conducted at the Child and Adolescent Victim Police Station and with the support of specialised professionals, confirmed the version reported by the victim’s mother, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest. The police did not say whether the mother and son travelled separately. The man has been charged with rape of a vulnerable person and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.”
