Boy, 7, tragically dies two years after complaining of severe tummy ache

Feliks Jama first visited the doctors about his stomach cramps in 2023 – before a large tumour was found on his kidney, as well as in his lungs and abdomen

A seven-year-old boy who complained of a tummy ache has died from cancer – two years after he first complained about the pain.

Young Feliks Jama first visited the doctors about his stomach cramps in 2023 before a large 8cm tumour was found on his kidney along with other others on his lungs and abdomen. He underwent treatment, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and the tumours were surgically removed.

But some of them grew back, and the boy had to restart treatment at the hospital in his hometown of Dolsk in Poland. Last November, his family thought they had made a breakthrough as he appeared to be improving, but tests later revealed that the kidney cancer, known as Wilms’ tumour, had returned.

Felik’s parents found treatment options at a clinic in Germany, but it proved to be ineffective, and they returned to Poland after less than a month. The youngster died on Sunday, September 14.

A Piece of Heaven Foundation spokesman said: “It is with great sadness that we inform you that our little Feliks has lost his battle with a terrible disease. Although our hearts are breaking with pain, we trust that he rests in peace and is surrounded by a love that cannot be broken.

“We now have our own saint in Heaven who intercedes for us. We ask for your prayerful support during this difficult time, especially for Felik’s parents, for whom we offer our sincerest condolences.”

Earlier this year, the foundation launched an online crowdfunding campaign on behalf of Felik’s family to cover his medical expenses abroad, rehabilitation, and medical consultations. It drew the support of 11,330 people. They raised more than £220,000.

The family’s original statement on the crowdfunding page read: “We are devastated… For a year and a half, we have been fighting for the life of our beloved son.

“Just when we thought we had finished treatment and defeated the malignant tumour, we were dealt another blow.

“A RECURRENCE. We are begging for help, please help us fight for Felek! On July 21, 2023, our son began complaining of abdominal pain that wouldn’t subside.

“Terrified, we decided to go to the hospital with Feliks. During an ultrasound, the doctor informed us that our son had a tumour on his kidney.

“We were shocked; we couldn’t believe it… We were referred to the hospital’s paediatric oncology department. There, it turned out that Feliks had an 8 cm tumor on his right kidney, as well as three additional tumors in his abdomen and four nodules in his lungs. Our world was shattered.”
