The funeral of a nine-year-old boy who died in an accident at his home in Ireland will take place on Friday.

The community will gather to pay tribute to the County Donegal boy, Joey Forker, after he was pronounced dead at the scene outside Dungloe on Friday evening.

His funeral will take place at St Crona’s Church Dungloe on Thursday. He was a pupil of St Crone’s National School in Dungloe. As an investigation into the boy’s death is ongoing, his family and friends are expected to appear at the funeral. Joey is survived by his heartbroken parents, Audrey and Joe, loving brothers Jason and Jordan, grandparent Willie, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.

Joey will repose at McGlynn’s funeral home in Dungloe on Monday. In a statement, gardai said: “Gardai and emergency services responded to a fatal incident at a premises in Dungloe, Co Donegal, on Friday August 22. A male child was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

His body was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post-mortem examination took place. The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and has launched an investigation into the incident. A file will be prepared for the coroner’s court.

In a statement, a spokesman said: “The HSA is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.”

Sinn Fein TD for Donegal, Pearse Doherty, said: “My thoughts and prayers are with all of those following the heartbreaking news from Dungloe.”

Joey’s funeral mass will take place on Thursday at 12pm in St Crona’s Church, Dungloe, with interment in Magheragallon Cemetery in Gweedore.

It comes after a dad died in front of his family on the beach. Four siblings, as young as 18 months, witnessed a sand dune collapse on dad Kane Watson – burying the young man headfirst.

Kane was trapped for 15 minutes at Muriwai Beach in New Zealand and, though emergency services freed him, he was later pronounced dead in hospital. The tragedy happened as Kane, 28, played with his 18-month-old daughter and three stepsons.

Following the man’s death at Auckland City Hospital, tributes have been paid to him – and his family heartbreakingly confirmed he has a new baby on the way whom he will never meet.
