The final days of Brandon Blackstock were reportedly spent at the place he felt most ‘at home’ following his divorce from American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson’s ex husband tragically died aged 48 this week over three years after he was diagnosed with cancer. The death of the former talent manager was revealed in a touching statement just a day after the American Idol alum had postponed her Las Vegas residency.
Now, it’s been said his final days were spent at the place he felt most “at home”. Following the completion of the pair’s divorce in 2022, it’s said Brandon purchased $1.8 million property in Butte, Montana.
A source claimed since buying the home weeks after his divorce, Brandon had lived a “pretty quiet life in Montana”.

Speaking to US Weekly, the insider said: “Even though he worked in entertainment in the past, that was not his personality. He was at home in Montana.”
They went on: “‘He had his ranch and rodeo, but he preferred to go under the radar. Some of the people who worked with him at Starstruck [Entertainment] ended up moving to Montana to work on the rodeo with him.”
And it’s at this ranch that Brandon was residing when his health deteriorated, according to the source. They added that despite Kelly and Brandon’s split, she made sure their kids spent a lot of quality time with their father.
The pair shared two children together, daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remington ‘Remy’ James, 9. Brandon also had two kids from a previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth..
The source said Kelly “did spend a lot of time traveling with her kids to be with him”.
Just a month before his death, his daughter Savannah, 23, announced she was pregnant with her second child. Taking to her her social media page at the time she said: “We’ve been keeping a couple sweet surprises.”
The sweet post went on: “One little girl will be making her arrival at the beginning of January and another beautiful girl named Julianna who has already been one of the greatest blessings to our family.”
Savannah, who is already a mother to her three-year-old son Lake, continued: “The Lord has been so faithful. He’s written a story we never could’ve imagined, and His kindness in this season has left us in awe. He’s answered prayers we never even knew how to pray.”
And in the post, reported by PEOPLE she added: “This journey has been so special full of peace, excitement, and so much grace. We’re growing again, and our hearts are so full. Thank you, Jesus.”
Following Brandon’s death, his brother paid emotional tribute to his sibling. Brandon’s race car driver half brother – who shares the same dad, Narvel Blackstock, as Brandon – released an emotional tribute online. Sharing a string of photos of himself and other family members with Brandon on his Instagram page, he said: “Words cannot begin to capture the tremendous loss our family has endured. Yesterday, we lost a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a son.
“Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family—funny, bright, and full of life—and he will be deeply missed.”He taught me so much, leaving behind countless cherished memories that I will hold onto forever. For every treasured moment we shared, there are so many more we’ll never get to make together, but I know you’ll still be there. Every hunt, every flight, and in the everyday moments of life, I’ll feel your presence.
“And although it may annoy you, you’ll have to watch me do it all just a little better, a little smoother, and —let’s be honest— looking far more handsome than you ever could in the process. We will always miss you, Brandon, and we will never stop loving, remembering and celebrating you.”
