A hugely popular singer has announced the cancellation of two of his performances in the US after the former Smiths frontman Morrissey received credible threats to his life
Singer Morrissey has been forced to cancel two scheduled shows in the US after receiving a chilling death threat.
The former Smiths frontman, 66, made the announcement via a statement on his official Facebook page. He was due to take to the stage at venues in Connecticut and Massachusetts, but will no longer be performing after receiving a “credible threat on his life”.
The statement read: “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s engagement at Foxwoods has been cancelled. We appreciate your understanding.”
Fans flooded the comment section with support and expressed their sadness over the cancellation. One wrote: “Sad the show is cancelled. Sad this is happening to Moz. Sad at the state of the world.”
“So glad I got to see him last fall. It was an epic show. Leave my man alone. Who would want to hurt a man like Moz? About as gentle as they come,” another added. “Sorry to hear that. Glad I got to see him at Radio City Hall 9/16/25 and he put up wonderful performance. Safety is important”.
The announcement comes after a 26 year old man from Ottawa was arrested and charged with making threats towards the singer on the social media app Blue Sky.
It remains unclear whether Morrissey received additional threats or if the cancellation was a precautionary measure in response.
