The fourth Bridget Jones movie, Mad About The Boy, is in cinemas now, and making waves is actor Leo Woodall, who plays Bridget’s younger lover Roxster in the romantic comedy
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is the fourth movie featuring Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones, and she appears in the romantic comedy alongside rising British star Leo Woodall.
Actor Leo, 28, plays Roxster, a gardener who begins a romance with mum of two Bridget – who is now a widow following the death of Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) – after bumping into her on London’s Hampstead Heath. Roxster is in his twenties while Bridget is in her early fifties, while in real life Leo is 28 and Renee is 55.
Leo’s performance in the movie, which includes him diving into a pool and emerging in a dripping wet shirt, referencing Colin Firth’s iconic Mr Darcy scene from Pride And Prejudice, is already winning rave reviews. If you’ve already seen Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy and need even more Roxster, here are the other projects you can catch Leo Woodall in.
The White Lotus
Sky TV
Leo appears in the second season of glossy drama The White Lotus, which is set at a lavish hotel resort in Sicily. He plays Jack, a young man from Essex who is described by British expat Quentin (Tom Hollander) as his ‘naughty nephew.’ Jack befriends personal assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson), who is travelling with wealthy entrepreneur Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge), the woman at the heart of the series’ mystery. Since filming finished, Leo confirmed on Instagram that he is dating his co-star from the series, Meghann Fahy.
One Day
Netflix
Get the tissues out for this emotional TV series adaptation of the David Nicholls tear-jerking novel that was previously made into a movie with Anne Hathaway. Leo has the lead role as Dexter, who meets Ambika Mod’s Emma at a graduation ball at the University of Edinburgh. The series follows their relationship over 14 years, as they begin as friends and have relationships with other people, including Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson as Sylvie and Jonny Weldon as Ian. The series proved so popular that Leo had to give up travelling on the tube after it dropped on Netflix. “I don’t really get the tube anymore,” he told Elle UK. “[A woman] told me her husband gets really jealous. It was just so uncomfortable.”
Prime Target
Apple TV+
Post graduate mathematics student Edward Brooks (Leo Woodall) finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy after his former professor is found dead in this twisting thriller series. It’s all to do with prime numbers possibly holding the key to accessing every computer in the world, but you don’t need a GCSE in Maths to follow the plot as Edward and government agent Taylah (Quintessa Swindell) are soon on the run dodging bullets and rather obvious bad guys.
Vampire Academy

Leo made his TV debut in a 2019 episode of Holby City, and then popped up in the 2022 series Vampire Academy as Adrian Ivashkov. Based on the popular Richelle Mead novels, the series takes place in 1997 and follows the adventures of Rose and Lissa, two students at St Vladimir’s Academy, where Rose is training to be a guardian to her vampire friend. The series only ran for 10 episodes, and Leo appeared in episodes six and seven.
Citadel

Priyanka Chopra and Bodyguard’s Richard Madden star in this American spy action series as two Citadel agents who return to work years after their memories have been wiped. Leo stars in episodes three and six as Duke, who helped Madden’s character Mason on a previous mission to disable a Russian submarine.
