It helps to trap in the heat to avoid households over exhausting their heating, it comes as parts of the UK brace for snow
The weather has taken a turn for the worse as rain downpours and flurries of snow hit the UK. For some households, this means feeling an extra chill inside as cold wind seeps through windows, doors and letterboxes.
Sneaky household drafts can be the culprit why your home feels cold, even if you’ve had the heating on all day and it may end up costing you more in energy bills. This is why our eye turned to one simple £5 product that can prevent chilly temperature changes in your home.
And that is a simple letterbox draft excluder which can be found at both Amazon or B&Q for as little as £5. The nifty gadget prevents draughts from coming in through the peephole thanks to its tightly fitted brushes. You’ll still be able to receive letters (with an extra oomph) but unwanted chilly air is kept out.
B&Q sells a gold option for just £5, a current saving of £8.65, and it comes with a flap and two brush seals, as well as a four year guarantee to give shoppers an extra piece of buyers comfort. Whereas Amazon’s £5.75 option is more plain, coming in a standard white PVC colour.
The Stormguard product at Amazon also comes with pre-drilled fixing holes making it a lot quicker to attach to the outside of your letterbox. It may look simple but users have flocked to the comments on Amazon to say just how effective it is in trapping heat.
Leaving a review with the headline ‘stops those nasty cold winds’ one recent buyer said the Stormguard was ‘so simple to put in place’. Another shopper left a review saying they were really pleased with the product, they said: “You can tell it’s doing its job because the postman is struggling to push letters through but the big, huge difference is the heat in my hallway now!
“It doesn’t feel so cold so we’ve achieved our goal and more!!. It looks really nice, so I’m now thinking of replacing the front part of the letterbox.”
Moving over to B&Q’s version of the draught stopper and previous shoppers have said they find the product to be ‘excellent’ for stopping draughts. One person said: “Brilliant letter box. Ideal for stopping draughts with the brush and flap seal.”
Another B&Q shoppers said: “I was looking for it covered all my letterbox and completely stopped all drafts and was easy to fit it also looked good on my new mahogany front door.”
When it comes to installing, the majority of reviews are positive but there are a handful of shoppers that found it tricky to attach to their front door. As one B&Q buyer said: “Good quality at a competitive price. A little fiddly fitting the far screw, a second pair of hands is recommended but only took a few minutes and fits well. I would recommend this product.”
Screwfix also sells a range of letterbox draught excluders.
