A huge fire has erupted in Bristol as eyewitnesses watch on in horror.
Shocking images showed thick grey plumes of smoke spread across the city, concerning locals in the area. One video uploaded on Twitter showed the severity of the fire as the flames appeared to strengthen.
Eyewitnesses suspect the fire broke out in the St Werburgh’s area of the city. Another local suspected the fire had erupted in Easton. However, the exact location is yet to be confirmed by the authorities.
One person said: “There’s a plume of black smoke rising from the city centre”. According to Bristol Live, the fire started by two Evergreen containers in what looks like a storage yard. A source told the publication: “The fire is beside two huge Evergreen containers in what looks like a storage yard. There are also large blue containers nearby.”
Bristol city centre is packed with shopping districts, historic pubs and live music venues. The latest incident comes just months after a man died following a fire at a hotel in Bristol city centre. Emergency services were called to the Radisson Blu hotel in Broad Quay on September 6.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the fire broke out within a room at the hotel. A force spokesperson said at the time: “Sadly, a man has died following a fire within a hotel room, in Broad Quay, on Friday evening (6 September). Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. The death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are preparing a file for a coroner.”
