Brit, 72, killed after collision with motorhome on notorious Spanish ‘Road of Death’

By staff15 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A British woman, aged 72, died after her car is believed to have crossed over onto the other side of the road at a notorious Alicante blackspot and hit an oncoming motorhome

A 72-year-old British woman has tragically died after she was involved in a head on crash at a notorious blackspot in Spain.

The accident was on the N-332 in the Santa Pola area, next a junction for the road to the Santa Pola lighthouse, which took place at around 2pm on Tuesday. The Guardia Civil believes the car driven by the unnamed British woman and heading towards Alicante, went onto the opposite carriageway and struck the motorhome.

Local reports say that the woman suffered cardiac arrest after initially survived the crash. Despite resuscitation efforts, her pulse was not restored, and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver of the motorhome, a 54-year-old Belgian man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while his wife, who was also travelling in the vehicle, was unharmed.

The incident caused significant traffic jams on the N-332, which lasted from the time of the accident until approximately 5:30 pm, when the crashed motorhome was removed by a tow truck. Forensic officers spent several hours at the crash scene gathering evidence following the crash for a report.

The accident took place at a spot which has seen a large number of accidents. The N-332 by Santa Pola municipality has among the highest vehicle accident statistics in the region and this is generally due to cars attempting to overtake with poor visibility.

Last month a three-week-old baby girl was killed and her mum left with serious injuries following a horror car accident at a popular holiday hotspot in Spain.

The mum and daughter were reportedly hit by an out-of-control car as it rolled down a hill in front of the woman’s husband and their four-year-old son while they were walking in the resort of Calpe in Costa Blanca, Spain. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and transported the baby to the La Fe Hospital in Valencia on September 15

The baby tragically died, and the mum, who was taken to the nearby Denia Hospital, reportedly had one of her legs amputated and suffered a blood clot.

Local police have launched an investigation into the accident, which is being linked locally to the handbrake giving way on the car that hit the mother and child. The baby was in a pram her mum was pushing when they were hit. The vehicle that careered into him is not believed to be their car.
