A British motorcyclist has died after a horror crash in Spain.
The 62-year-old collided head-on with a van this afternoon while travelling on a road leading from the A-12 motorway in Iguzkitza. Emergency services received their first call around 1.40pm, and sent ambulances and a medical helicopter to the scene, along with police and firefighters. They were unable to save his life. The tragedy unfolded on the NA-1110, a single carriageway road connecting the towns of Azketa and Iratxe. It is not yet known if the man was visiting as a tourist or lived locally. Photographs from the scene showed the motorbike laid across the tarmac.
The van can also be seen a few yards away by the side of the road, with its front smashed in.
A spokesman for local firefighters said: “We were called this afternoon about a front-on collision between a motorbike and a van on the NA-1110.
“The man on the motorbike died and the occupants of the van were unharmed.”
The Mirror has approached the Foreign Office for comment.
It comes after a British couple died after crashing their Ferrari in Spain at the weekend.
The couple, aged 78 and 58, died in a horror crash in Boca de Huergano in the province of Leon, around four hours west of today’s crash.
Their car skidded off the road and plunged into a river.
They were driving a vehicle with a British number plate, were found by rescuers after they reached the black Ferrari 488’s remains lying in the Yuso river.
They were reportedly part of a large convoy of around 20 other Ferrari owners.
The group had arrived in the city of Leon, the capital of the province, the day before the crash.
Police said earlier this week an investigation into the cause of the crash was still underway.
In 2022 – the last year for available data – approximately 1,815 people died in car crashes in Spain.
