Brit tourist fighting for life in Greece after being ‘crushed by falling glass balcony’

By staff13 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A 49-year-old British tourist was on holiday with his wife on the Greek island of Crete when strong gales shifted a section of the balcony, local media reports said

A British holidaymaker is in a critical condition after being crushed by a glass balcony which fell from a building. The 49-year-old tourist was on holiday with his wife on the Greek island of Crete when strong gales shifted a section of the balcony, according to local media reports.

The Brit was quickly rushed to the Venizelio Hospital after suffering horrific injuries following the freak accident in Hersonissos. He was taken into surgery upon arrival and medics had to remove his spleen. Furthermore, he required a second operation after suffering head injuries, the hospital’s director Kostas Dandoulakis revealed. He also suffered an injury to his spine, which has left him a critical condition, local reports said.

Local police have opened a preliminary investigation into the incident. It comes as a Brit is fighting for his life after falling from the third floor of a building in Ibiza.

The 18-year-old was found unconscious on the pavement with severe injuries and police believe he fell from the third floor of the property above the street.

Paramedics managed to stabilise him on the street and transferred him to the Can Misses Hospital where he was admitted at around midnight with head trauma and several serious injuries. Local police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, which happened on Sunday evening.

The man was later transferred to the Son Espases Hospital in Mallorca by helicopter, where he remains admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. It is not yet known if the teenager was on holiday in Ibiza or living there and the Civil Guard is investigating.

Meanwhile, an Australian tourist died while on holiday in Thailand after diving from a tour boat while intoxicated.

The tragic incident happened on May 6 when Corey Walsh boarded a boat to enjoy a tour off the coast of Phuket leaving from the island of Koh Racha Yai. During the trip Mr Walsh dived off the Marinda 2 tour boat and into the water.

The young Australian tourist, who is a tradesman from Frankston, Melbourne, jumped into the water near a popular snorkelling spot. But, tragedy struck when he could no longer fight against the strong current and he is believed to have been dragged underwater.

Emergency services were called at about 2.28pm local time after Mr Walsh was pulled from the water unconscious and unresponsive. Upon his arrival at the port, medics immediately administered CPR while Mr Walsh was still on the deck of the boat before rushing him by ambulance to Chalong Hospital in Phuket – a 15 minute car journey.

Sadly despite the best efforts of medical staff at the hospital Mr Walsh was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
