Brit tourist fighting for life in Madrid after he’s mowed down by drug driver

By staff21 May 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The 35-year-old British holidaymaker is fighting for his life after being hit by a drug driver in Madrid – we’ll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story.

A British tourist has been left fighting for his life after being run over by a drugged-up driver.

The 35-year-old holidaymaker was hit by a car as he tried to cross the road near Madrid’s Atocha Railway Station. The man behind the wheel was a private hire vehicle driver, and local reports said he tested positive for drugs at the scene and was arrested. He has not been named, but has been identified as a 33-year-old man from Venezuela. The victim, who suffered a severe head injury, was rushed to the Spanish capital’s 12 de Octubre Hospital and reportedly admitted to intensive care.

The Mirror has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning. The unnamed British tourist is said to have been crossing the Paseo del Prado, a picturesque boulevard lined with hundred-year-old trees that connects the Carlos V roundabout and Cibeles Square and is home to some of Madrid’s most renowned museums.

It was named a World Heritage Site in July 2021 along with the nearby El Retiro Park. Police sources said the injured man had crossed the road “improperly” at a spot where there are no traffic lights or pedestrian crossing.

It comes after millionaire British businessman Paul Tustain died in front of his daughter in a horror head on crash with a van.
The 62-year-old founder and chairman of BullionVault, the world’s largest online bullion investment service, was travelling on a motorbike on a road near the northern Spanish town of Pamplona on May 15, where the famous San Fermin festival takes place every year.

The BMW rented motorbike he was on collided head-on with a van around 1.30pm local time on the NA-1110 road running beside the A-12 motorway, in a municipality called Iguzquiza, a 35-minute drive from Pamplona. London-based Paul and his daughter, who was travelling on another motorbike behind him, are understood to have been doing a tour of Spain.

They were heading for the town of Logrono when the crash occurred. The accident happened four days after a British couple aged 78 and 58 died in a horror crash in Boca de Huergano in the province of Leon, around four hours west of yesterday’s tragedy, after their Ferrari skidded off the road and plunged into a river.

The pair, driving a UK-plated vehicle, were found by rescuers after they reached the black Ferrari 488’s remains lying in the Yuso river.
They were reportedly part of a large convoy of around 20 other Ferrari owners. The group had arrived in the city of Leon.
