Despite being named one of the 10 worst beachside spots in the country by Which? in 2023, Great Yarmouth in Norfolk remains a firm favourite with Brits holidaying in the UK
Despite being dubbed one of the UK’s ‘worst seaside towns’, Brits are still flocking to Great Yarmouth in Norfolk – drawn by its stunning sandy beach and budget-friendly accommodation options.
Some rooms can be found for as little as £11 a night. However, the town was listed among the 10 worst beachside spots in the country by Which? in 2023. Visitors have complained about run-down arcades, disappointing B&Bs, and aggressive seagulls.
Yet, many Brits have come to the defence of this popular seaside destination on Tripadvisor. They argue that the criticisms don’t align with their experiences of the ‘beautiful beach’ and its uncrowded feel.
One visitor enthused: “Great Yarmouth has some beautiful beaches to spend the day on and they are so big you never feel crowded.” Another praised the “lovely clean seafront [that’s] full of everything you need for the seaside”, adding: “This beautiful and huge beach and its lovely clean seafront is full of everything you need for the seaside. Such lovely gift shops just across the road and full of B&B’S and hotels.”
Visitors have been left utterly charmed by Great Yarmouth’s sweet shops, ice cream parlours, and an array of restaurants. Not to mention the host of indoor attractions that rescue any rainy day, including the SEA LIFE Aquarium, National Trust properties, fun arcades, and educational museums.
The Pleasure Beach also remains a firm favourite with its thrilling rides and family-friendly attractions. One particularly thrilled guest gushed: “What a fantastic day out in Great Yarmouth! We visited as a family of five, with three children aged 8, 6 and 4. We also went with a family of four, with children aged 8 and 12 and grandparents.
“Everyone was entertained for the whole day and this is fantastic value for money!” The visitor continued their praise, adding: “We didn’t stop for the whole day with rides suitable for the whole party and not once did anyone ever get bored. Food choice and prices were brilliant. Staff were very helpful. A must visit when in Yarmouth as a family!”
And it gets even better for those looking for a sweet deal—booking. com is offering a stay at the Easton at Majestic Hotel for just £11 per night, which is only £5.50 per person for two adults and it’s perfectly located just 450 yards from the beach.
