Brits urged to use £3 item on BBQ before grilling meat this summer

As the cost of living crisis rages on, the humble at-home BBQ continues to be a firm favourite for Brits. With this one tip you can clean up your grill in no time for a summer full of entertainment.

As the days heat up and the warmer evening and weekends roll in Brits will be dusting off their BBQs for a calendar of summer fun. Instead, take five minutes to make time for a deep clean and start a new with a fresh BBQ.

Leaving last year’s dregs on your grill could cramp your style but this one £3.49 product can come to the rescue. Once you’ve made time for a deep clean, before firing up the grill, clear out any leftover ash, burnt bits, and grease from your last BBQ – all of which can mess with flavour and performance over time.

A method spokesperson tells the Mirror that BBQ lovers should be sure to tackle that grime before it hijacks your grill and upstages your perfectly seared steaks. Use a sturdy grill brush or scraper to remove stuck-on residue, getting into all the tricky corners and between the grates.

Once the surface debris is gone, it’s time to freshen things up. This is where squeezing just a few drops of method’s washing up liquid in green tea + citrus can make all the difference.

Start by dropping a few bubbles of washing up liquid into a bowl of warm water. Then, dip a cloth or sponge in the soapy water and wipe down all exterior surfaces, making sure to cut through grease and weather marks. Rinse with a clean damp cloth and dry thoroughly with a soft towel.

You’ll find you are left with a sparkling, streak-free grill that’s clean, fresh, and ready to impress. Another more untoward method of scrubbing up your BBQ is using any beer you have to hand.

If you’ve forgotten to whack your brews in the fridge or have any stragglers from party season lying around – you’re in luck. Beer’s natural acidity can help cut through grease, while its carbonation will help dislodge any stuck-on food particles. Any old can of beer will do. No need to waste the good stuff on cleaning duty.

Simply rev up your barbecue to a medium temperature and pour a can of beer over the warmed grates. Let it settle for a few minutes before scrubbing off with a grill brush to leave your surfaces sparkling.

Baking soda will be a permanent fixture in many kitchen cupboards and possesses remarkable cleaning properties. Simply mix it with a bit of water to form a paste, then apply it to the grates with a brush or sponge. Let it sit for a few minutes to work its magic, then scrub away the dirt and rinse with water. Your grill will shine like new.

Equally, for those hard-to-reach spots, a little aluminium foil can work wonders. Crumple up a sheet of foil into a ball, then use it to scrub away stubborn residue on the grates.
