Brits vow to ‘never’ go on one holiday after seeing ‘bizarre’ hotel guest behaviour

People have been left gobsmacked by the behaviour of Brits abroad as sunbed wars continue to go to extreme levels – with some vowing to never go on holiday again

Brits abroad have left people stunned with their extreme tactics in the ongoing sunbed wars. We’ve all felt the struggle of finding that perfect sunbed for a relaxing holiday. Many holidaymakers desire loungers close to the pool or under a parasol, ideally grouped together so the family isn’t scattered and everyone can sit together. However, during peak times, securing an unoccupied lounger can be a challenge – leading to the infamous ‘sunbed wars’ at numerous popular European resorts and hotels.

Due to the fierce competition for the best sunbed, some hotel guests have been spotted queuing to enter pool areas before they even open – then sprinting to their preferred spot to throw down their towel and claim their territory.

Recently a hotel staff member was trampled at a resort in Tenerife as guests rushed out at 6.30am when the pool opened, reports our sister site Daily Express. Footage has also emerged of British tourists in Tenerife even sleeping on sun loungers overnight in a desperate bid to secure the prime spot at another Spanish hotel.

The sunbed wars witnessed at Parque Santiago III in Las Americas, Tenerife, this summer have left people gobsmacked. The four-star hotel, popular with families and boasting a massive pool and water slides, so guests are keen to get a good space.

A video posted on TikTok by Jeff Hunter has gone viral, showing the moment hotel guests make a mad dash for the poolside sun loungers as soon as the pool opens. One eager guest is seen rushing to the front, placing six towels on six beds in quick succession before grabbing a seventh sun bed and dragging it over.

The clip has amassed over 20 million views and sparked a flurry of comments from viewers, many of whom expressed their distaste for this type of holiday experience.

“Just wouldn’t want to stay in a place like that to be honest,” one viewer remarked. “Can’t think of anything worse,” another chimed in. A third insisted: “This is not a holiday.”

One person mused: “Imagine you’ve met the partner of your dreams and they do this on your first holiday together.” Another commented: “Imagine working the whole year to finally go on vacation, and this is it.

“How sad is this,” one user lamented. Another was more blunt, stating: “This is why I will never go to an all inclusive 4 star hotel. Tacky and low class.”

One viewer shared their own experience of a trip to Tenerife, saying: “As an Aussie I travelled to Tenerife with my UK cousins! They woke me up at 7 or 8 and said go put the towels out. I was so hungover I thought what the f***? Fair to say we fell out over this during our trip! I will never understand this pathetic behaviour and well… yeah we still don’t talk but the mentality is bizarre.”

Someone else shared: “I hate this. Currently in Menroca and there are so many sunbeds with NOBODY ON THEM! Just towels. Empty for hours, this shouldn’t be allowed.”

Others said they can’t fathom why people are so fixated with their sun lounger spot.

One travel enthusiast remarked: “I’ve been to Tenerife and I don’t understand people going there to stay in a hotel’s pool instead of going around the island and enjoying the different beaches.”

Someone wondered: “Is sitting next to a concrete pool of chlorine water for 12 hours really that brilliant?”
