Drivers are being warned that leaving their car in this way could invalidate their insurance and make it more likely to be targeted by thieves
Motorists are cautioned that a simple error this week could void their car insurance.
With temperatures poised to soar above 30°C this week during the latest summer scorcher, drivers will be seeking methods to keep their vehicles cool. However, doing certain things might be causing them some trouble instead of benefiting them, including invalidating their insurance or someone breaking into their vehicles.
And some individuals favour keeping their windows ajar when their car is stationed, to enhance air circulation and make it less stifling when they return. In other news, UK drivers got warned over ‘avoiding’ road instead of having to follow new rule.

However, leaving windows open whilst vehicles are unattended renders them more susceptible to criminals, and they may be more prone to becoming a target, reports Birmingham Live.
Consequently, insurers will regard unfavourably cars being burgled or possessions pinched when windows have been left open. Insurance policies may be voided because it is fundamentally the owner’s responsibility that their motor has been targeted.
A spokesperson for motoring specialists Dick Lovett said: “Leaving windows slightly open to ventilate parked cars may seem harmless, but it actually can invalidate your insurance and make your vehicle vulnerable to theft. Insurance companies classify this as negligence, which could lead to them rejecting theft or vandalism claims.”
“Instead, use reflective window shades, park in shaded areas, or position your car so the sun hits the rear window rather than the dashboard to help keep the interior cool without putting your car at risk.”

They further advised: “Strategically parking your vehicle in shaded areas, such as underneath trees or in underground car parks, significantly reduces how much the internal temperature will rise. If shade isn’t available, position your car so the sun hits the rear window instead of the dashboard.”
“Reflective sun shades are essential for keeping your car cool. They work by reflecting sunlight away from your car interior, drastically reducing how hot it gets. And if you’re travelling with children or pets, they’re great at protecting your passengers from direct sun exposure.”
With the return of summer temperatures, many drivers will get tempted to use methods to prevent their cars from accumulating heat before hitting the road. However, to avoid problems and a bad start to the day, it’s best to do so with caution and find other ways to do so without your car becoming a target for thieves.
