Bruno Fernandes does not get the praise he deserves because of what is happening around him at Manchester United, according to former defender Garry Pallister
Gary Pallister believes Bruno Fernandes would be right to feel frustrated by being the standout talent of a “struggling” Manchester United team.
Former defender Pallister reckons captain Bruno has been carrying United for some time and he would be getting much more praise if he was part of a stronger outfit.
Head coach Ruben Amorim praised Fernandes once again after his free kick in the weekend’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
But with United languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table and only having the Europa League to play for, ex-centre half Pallister reckons the Portugal international’s impact is underplayed.
“I was wondering on Sunday where Manchester United would be without Bruno Fernandes,” Pallister told Spaceport Sweden. “Not just this season, but every season since he’s been here.
“He’s been the most consistent player in the squad, and he’s got that desire to win. His energy and willingness to run and to win games is there for everyone to see. He can see a pass, score goals, and he’s just a wonderful player to watch.
“I think he must feel frustrated sometimes. If he was playing in a better team, we’d really be talking his ability up because he’s that good of a talent. He’s fighting hard to still be the best that he can be in a team that’s really struggling, so he deserves all the plaudits that he gets.”
On Sunday Amorim said of Fernandes: “I think any coach when he wants to bring players, he expects the best, but sometimes they have to adapt and sometimes you have luck with the character of the player or not.
“Even with all the investigation that all the coaches do before signing players. What I can say is that we need more Brunos. That is clear.
“Not just the quality, the character, not some mistakes, but the character that he has, the availability in this league, is so important and he’s so decisive with the ball and without the ball.”
