BST Hyde Park cancelled as Jeff Lynne pulls out of ELO performance amid illness

By staff12 July 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

BST Hyde Park has been forced to cancel its Sunday July 13 event following the last-minute decision by ELO to pull out of their appearance

BST Hyde Park has revealed tomorrow’s event has been cancelled. The shocked news comes after ELO were forced to pull out of their appearance.

In a statement, organisers said: “Following the news that Jeff Lynne’s ELO will not be able to perform at BST Hyde Park due to medical reasons, Sunday 13 July’s event will sadly be cancelled.

Ticket holders will be refunded and contacted directly by their ticket agent with further details. They also shared a website for those with tickets to claim a refund.

Jeff Lynne was earlier forced to cancel his planned BFT Hyde Park concert this weekend after falling ill. The team working with the 77-year-old music star had previously revealed he was suffering from ill health, which had led to cancellations of Manchester shows earlier in the week.

Issuing a statement for his pulling out, his team said: “Jeff Lynne is heartbroken to report that he will not be able to perform at tomorrow’s BST Hyde Park show.”

It added: “Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time nor will he be able to reschedule.

“The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff’s mind today — and while he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time.”

The cancellation comes after Friday’s event had to be cut short. Rocker Neil Young breached the strict 10.30pm London Hyde Park curfew after an epic concert which led to bosses needing to take action.

The legendary star was supposed to finish at 10.20pm on Friday night ahead of the strict curfew in the Royal park. But he appeared to ignore the rules as he was still on stage and going strong at 10.32pm.

He was performing an extended version of Rockin’ in the Free World when his actions forced festival chiefs to to step in. One source said: “Neil and his band were having a great time and would have kept on going.

“There were at least three false endings to the song before festival bosses decided enough was enough, and faded the music down. Neil and the band looked a bit puzzled but they are strict about these things – especially as it’s a royal park.”

The strict cut off is insisted upon by Westminster Council. It is part of their licensing conditions. Despite the fact, there were some boos near the front when it emerged the power had been turned off.

It’s not the first time fans have been disappointed by a cut off, either. Most notably, Bruce Springsteen in 2012, was met with the same treatment.
