Investigators have launched “relentless” efforts to hunt down the driver of a car following the suspected murder of 19-year-old Brandon Kershaw in Bury, Greater Manchester

Police have launched a desperate hunt for a “gentle” teen who died in a car smash being treated as a “targeted” attack and suspected murder.

Brandon Kershaw, 19, died on Porritt Street in Bury, Greater Manchester on Monday after he was found by police with serious injuries in the middle of the road. He was pronounced dead despite the best efforts of paramedics after they arrived at the scene at around 8.10pm. Brandon’s family has issued a heartfelt tribute to the young dad, remembering the “kind-hearted young man” who was “taken far too soon” as police continue a “relentless” search for the driver of the car.

In a statement issued via Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Brandon’s family said they have been left “shocked and heartbroken” by his sudden loss on Monday.

Their statement read: “We are all truly shocked and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Brandon. He was a gentle, kind-hearted young man whose warmth and social nature touched everyone around him. Brandon was taken far too soon, and his passing has left a deep void in all our lives.”

The family added that, on top of being “best friends” with his mum, Brandon was a “devoted dad” to his young daughter. The statement continued: “Brandon was a devoted dad to his young daughter, who he loved deeply.”

“His family meant everything to him, and the bond he shared with his mum was incredibly special, they were best friends. As we come to terms with this devastating news, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and support one another through this difficult time.” Investigators have arrested one man on suspicion of murder after saying Brandon died in a “targeted attack”.

GMP’s Major Incident Team is currently questioning the 38-year-old man while he remains in custody as officers search for the driver of the vehicle and “people of interest”.

Detective Chief Inspector David Moores said: “From enquiries so far, we believe Brandon died from the impact of the vehicle and despite best efforts of emergency services, Brandon sadly passed away due to the severity of his injuries. We still have people of interest we are keen to speak to.

“The driver of the vehicle remains outstanding and relentless efforts are currently being conducted by specialist units to locate him.” The inspector also issued an appeal for information, asking members of the public who “may have seen something suspicious in the area” on Monday evening to come forward.

People have been asked to get in touch with Greater Manchester Police via the service’s LiveChat function on gmp.police.uk, or by calling the police non-emergency number 101 quoting incident number 3460 of 19/5/25.

Anyone who believes they have useful information can also submit a report via the Major Incident Public Portal. Inspector Moores added: “Information will be treated with the strictest confidence. It only takes one crucial piece of information that may be key to achieving answers for Brandon’s family and friends.”
